Mark 4:26-34 English Standard Version (ESV)

The Parable of the Seed Growing

26 And he said, "The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground. 27 He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how. 28 The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. 29 But when the grain is ripe, at once he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come."

The Parable of the Mustard Seed

30 And he said, "With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use for it? 31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth, 32 yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade."

33 With many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it. 34 He did not speak to them without a parable, but privately to his own disciples he explained everything.

PASTOR AND ALAN HOFELDT WERE AT THE MISSOURI DISTRICT CONVENTION THIS PAST SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY…   WHAT IS THE MISSOURI DISTRICT OF THE LCMS AND WHAT WERE THE RESULTS OF THE CONVENTION?

The Missouri District is all of the 268 Lutheran Church Missouri Synod congregation located in Missouri.  We have our own system of governance and our own structure of ministry together.

Every three years a lay delegate and a pastor from each congregation meet in convention in Columbia to elect our president and officers for the next three years and to decide other important business.  Below are the results that pertain specifically to you as members of St. John's:

  1. President Lee Hagan was re-elected to his second term.
  2. I (pastor) was elected as the "circuit visitor" for eight congregations (Christ, Augusta; Holy Cross, OFallon; Immanuel, Wentzville, St. Paul, New Melle; Trinity, Troy; Trinity, Wellsville, Grace, Wellsville; and St. Paul, Jonesburg).  (This basically means I will be helping out congregation when challenges arise or when they need a new pastor).
  3. A restructuring was approved that is very similar to the restructuring we are doing at St. John's.  They eliminated four boards and created one new board of directors and a council on mission and ministry.

Please say a prayer of thanks for all of those who serve at the district level and pray as they continue to assist congregations in making disciples.
