FW: E2 Conferences Begin This Weekend - Register Today for One Near You!

TO all St. John's folks, but especially leaders (officers, board and committee members).  These are very worthwhile conferences, and I am hoping we can get a couple folks from St. John's to go to the one in Wentzville on Sept. 24.  (I'll be at the men's retreat.)

Please reply if you'd like to go!

DEVOTION:  Psalm 113
"Who Is like the Lord Our God?"

113 Praise the Lord!
Praise, O servants of the Lord,
praise the name of the Lord!

Blessed be the name of the Lord
from this time forth and forevermore!
From the rising of the sun to its setting,
the name of the Lord is to be praised!

The Lord is high above all nations,
and his glory above the heavens!
Who is like the Lord our God,
    who is seated on high,
who looks far down
on the heavens and the earth?
He raises the poor from the dust
and lifts the needy from the ash heap,
to make them sit with princes,
with the princes of his people.
He gives the barren woman a home,
making her the joyous mother of children.
Praise the Lord!

In this psalm we see David extolling the limitless power and love of God.  There is nowhere he won't be.  There is no one he won't see.  There is nothing he can't do, even making the poor sit with princes and the barren woman have children.

You may want to put limits on God.  Your soul might even mistakenly think that God can't help you.  Don't put limits on God's help.  Don't put restrictions on what God can do.  He can do whatever he wants.  HE'S GOD!

That doesn't mean he will do everything you want.  He may not heal your cancer because he wants you to grow through it, and he wants you to ultimately be with him in paradise, and he will use that cancer to get you there.  He may not want you to have a million dollars, because he knows it will ruin your faith.  He may not want you to have that new and "better" relationship, but want you to be reconciled in the relationship you already have.

He will and already has sent his Son to die so that you may be saved from eternal death because of your sin.  He will care for your so0ul, by giving you His Word and Sacraments.  He will give you the power to love and forgive those around you.  He will give you the strength to make it through tough times.  He will bring you to eternal life.

Trust in God's power to do for you what you NEED.  Trust in god's power to redeem you, save you, give you that peace that passes all understanding, and bring you to Himself.  Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your paths.

Prayer:  Lord, thank you for your limitless power.  Help me to trust in it and put my whole life in your hands.  Amen.

YESTERDAY'S QUIZ: Who was Zadok and why are his descendants so important?

An answer all the way from the Czech Republic!!  Thanks Denise!
Zadok was a priest. According to Ezekiel's temple vision from God, only the descendants (sons) of Zadok could draw near to the Lord to minister before him. This is because Zadok didn't stray from God when the others did. The descendants of the other priests were not to come near the Lord, serve as priests or be near his holy things. They only had charge of the duties of the temple and the work that was done in it. The priests and Levites that were descendants of Zadok could stand before the Lord and offer sacrifices. They alone were  to enter His sanctuary, come before His table and perform His service.
