DEVOTION:  1 Corinthians 10:1-13  English Standard Version (ESV)

10 For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ. Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did. Do not be idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play." We must not indulge in sexual immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in a single day. We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents, 10 nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer. 11 Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come. 12 Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Have you ever someone say that, "God won't give you anything you can't handle"?   NOT TRUE!!  When you hear that, don't believe it!  It isn't in the Bible!!

What is in the Bible is the last verse for the Epistle reading for today.  God allows temptation to come upon you in order to test you, not to see if you'll fall into it, but to strengthen you in His power and grace.  For, when he allows you to be overcome with temptation, he also provides the way out, JESUS, so that you may be able to endure it.

The verse before it is very important to remember too.  "Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall."  Don't get too confident or to cocky that you think you can handle temptation on your own.  You aren't!  You won't!  The only way you are able to overcome  temptation is through the Holy Spirit living in you!  And when you do fall into temptation, the only way out of it is JESUS!

Listen to me!  You can't handle everything on your own.  Every day you will encounter things you can't handle!  That's why you have the Holy Spirit in you!  That's why you have Jesus to die on a cross for you!

Live in that grace and power today and know that the Lord is there to see you through it all!

Prayer: Lord, help us to stand firm in you lest we fall into temptation and thank you for pulling us back out of that temptation pit when we do fall into it.  Amen.

RESULTS OF BUILDING MEETING LAST NIGHT
The group decided that the plans that were proposed and approved years ago are not feasible and will not work for our current situation.  They also decided to move forward with a  new master plan which will be put together in the coming weeks and then presented to the building committee and after approval will be presented to the voters.

LENT DINNERS ARE EVERY WEDNESDAY DURING LENT AT 5:30!!
Over the last many, many years your Jr. and Sr. high youth and their parents (mostly their parents) have been serving dinner on Wednesday nights during Lent.  While this is a good way for the youth and their parents to serve and give back to the congregation, it is also supposed to be a way for them to raise money for their service projects and trips.

Unfortunately over the past several years, they have barely broken even on these dinners.  The parents usually donate the desserts and even much of the other food out of their own pockets.  Without that the youth would probably lose money.

It is especially important that they make money this year, as they will need all they can get to make their goal for the National Youth Gathering in new Orleans.

I want to encourage you all to attend these dinners, and, while there is no set price per person for these dinners, a generous free will offering is strongly encouraged!!

Below is the Menu for each week:

Feb 24-
Turkey
Stuffing
green beans
apple sauce
desserts

March 2-
taco bar w/all the fixings
desserts

March 9-

salad
rolls
desserts

March 16-

As always, thank you for your continued support of the future of Christianity!!!
