DEVOTION: Psalm 70 English Standard Version (ESV)

Lord, Do Not Delay

To the choirmaster. Of David, for the memorial offering.

70 Make haste, O God, to deliver me!
    Lord, make haste to help me!
Let them be put to shame and confusion
    who seek my life!
Let them be turned back and brought to dishonor
    who delight in my hurt!
Let them turn back because of their shame
    who say, "Aha, Aha!"

May all who seek you
    rejoice and be glad in you!
May those who love your salvation
    say evermore, "God is great!"
But I am poor and needy;
    hasten to me, O God!
You are my help and my deliverer;
    Lord, do not delay!

As we see our brothers and sisters in Christ being killed senselessly by another crazy mad man bent on evil.  We agree and wholeheartedly call out to Jesus and say, "O Lord, do not delay!"  As we see Satan at work in the hearts and lives of people we say, "O Lord, do not delay!"  As we look to make sense, to place blame, to work through these acts of the devil we plead, "O Lord, do not delay!"  As we look at our own lives of sinfulness, broken dreams, broken relationships, brokenness, we cry out, O Lord, do not delay!"

     It is hard for us on these Mondays after tragedy to look forward to the day.  As we look at our own selves, our own lives, and realize that we are going to keep on messing up until the day Jesus returns, it's often hard for us to look forward to the day.  We want Jesus to come back RIGHT NOW!

     Yet, his ways are not our ways.  His thoughts are not our thoughts.  So instead of ruing the day, instead of sinking further and further into depression, let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, let us fix our eyes on JESUS, the author and perfecter of our faith!  Let us find our joy in the salvation, love, forgiveness, and grace of Jesus; and then, with our eyes and heart fixed on Jesus let's go forth into this new day with joy and peace in the midst of all this sorrow, devastation, and death, because Christ has wont he victory!  Christ is risen!  He is risen indeed!  Alleluia!

Prayer: Lord, I believe!  Help my unbelief!  Come quickly Lord Jesus, but until you come fill me with your Spirit so I may rejoice for today is a day that you have made.  Amen.

NEWS:

WE ARE STILL IN NEED OF NOMINATIONS FOR OUR CHURCH BOARDS!!!  Below is what we need:

Board of elders- 3 men of good standing in the church who are active: main duties include, worship and communion assistance, member care, developing of budget for salary and benefits for staff.  They usually meet on the second Sunday of each month at noon. (Dave Winter is timed out and two of our other elders have resigned this year.)

Board of trustees- 3 people- main duties include taking care of St. John's property and approving budget for insurance and maintenance.  They meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 7pm and have several work days (usually on Saturday morning) throughout the year.  (Teresa Scott and Gary Hoelscher are both timed out and Scott Heitgerd has transferred to Immanuel, Wentzville)

Board of education- 2 people needed- Main duties include planning, preparation and carrying out of Sunday school program, VBS, and other education programs.  They usually meet on an as needed basis.  (Naomi Johnson is unable to continue due to work and family responsibilities and Lisa Rausch's first term is up)  We are in desperate need of a couple people who have the time and energy available to commit to this board.

Secretary-  This is not the same as our office administrator, Terry;  This person is responsible for taking minutes at voter's and council meetings, and for preparing agendas for the same.  This person can also be a signer on checks and other official documents.  (Patty Sweet has decided to go to a different church)

If you would like to nominate someone, including yourself, or have possible suggestions, please reply to this email, or call me at 636-359-1061
