Prayer request from Al and Karen Benton

Please pray for Al and Karen Benton's granddaughter, Sammie, and her infant son. She went into premature labor and when they tried to stop it at the hospital she had an allergic reaction to the shot. The baby boy was delivered via emergency C section safely, but since he is 10 weeks early he is having trouble breathing as his lungs need more yime to develop so he is being transported to the Cardinal Glennon NICU for the care he needs.

Thanks for your prayers!

Pray for a good outco.e

New small group Bible study starting Sunday at 10:45

A new adult Bible study is starting this Sunday called "The Story of Angels" by Don Ginkel.  Bruce and Dani Richardson will be leading it.  It is a good study to get a real understanding of what angels actually are (hint: They're not people who have died.)  and what they do.  Please join this small group in room 2 in our education wing.

If anyone else would like to start a small group Bible study of something they are interested in, please contact me (pastor).  The more people in God's Word, the better!

DEVOTION: James 3:1-12 English Standard Version (ESV)

Taming the Tongue

Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness. For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body. If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well. Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things.

How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life,[a] and set on fire by hell.[b] For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. 10 From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers,[c] these things ought not to be so. 11 Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water? 12 Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water.

YESTERDAY'S QUIZ   What is Sheol?

The word, occurring 65 times in the Hebrew old testament, still is obscure.  1. It can mean the resting place of mankind's mortal remains.  2. It can also mean "realm of the dead," both righteous and wicked.  3.  Shoel means the place where God's judgement overtakes evildoers.

NEWS:

IF YOU DIDN"T MAKE IT SUNDAY TO DISCIPLE MAKERS, YOU HAVE ANOTHER CHANCE TO MAKE IT TODAY (WEDNESDAY) at 6:30pm!!!

I am really excited about this new form of worship and Bible study/Sunday school!  God will surely bless it and make it grow!

Yesterday we talked about the Bible.  What is the Bible?  What is it for?  Who wrote it?  How should we read it and study it?  It was a great beginning! The kids also each got an age appropriate book to take home.

This Sunday we are going to get into it!  We'll start with the creation account up to Adam and Eve.

Every week we will have some worship time and then we will answer three questions about the story we are studying:

What is the history of it all?  (What actually happened?)

What is His story?  (What does God want us to understand and know?)

What is your story?  (What is it all about for you?)

If you didn't make it yesterday, we have another session every week on Wednesday at 6:30!! Please join us!  Every age is invited to participate!!!  You might even get a book!
