DEVOTION: (from Lutheran Hour Ministries)
But let all who take refuge in You rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread Your protection over them, that those who love Your Name may exult in You. For You bless the righteous, O Lord; You cover him with favor as with a shield. Psalm 5:11-12
In the last few months there has been some serious news coverage concerning North Korea's desire to shoot some nuclear weapons in the direction of the United States.
Apparently, there seems to be some disagreement on the matter.
Understand, there's no disagreement about that nation's desire. The leaders of North Korea most definitely want the technology. Nor is there any disagreeing about that nation investing almost every penny into making the wish a reality. No, the disagreement among U.S. intelligence agencies is just how long it's going to take for North Korea to develop that ability.
You see, the Defense Intelligence Agency is pretty sure North Korea could launch a missile at us right now; it's just not sure if it could hit us. The Pentagon says the missiles North Korea has featured in its parades have not been flight-tested. Even so, our generals concede North Korea is committed to scaring us by putting into their arsenal a deliverable nuclear weapon.
Well, I can't speak for you, but I think that's pretty scary.
You know, if North Korea were a little child and nuclear weapons were a pocket knife, we would stop that child and carefully take the knife away. But I guess you can't do that kind of thing when you're dealing with a sovereign nation. This means we will just have to live with the idea of North Korea's saber-rattling.
The only thing that surprises me about this whole thing is that while people seem to be frightened about a nuclear war, they're pretty complacent when it comes to the idea of spending eternity in hell.
While neither of those prospects is pleasant, if I were given a choice between being vaporized in a moment by a North Korean nuke or spending my everlasting tomorrows in the torments of the hot place, well, there really is no choice.
Thankfully, the hatred directed against us by sin, the devil and death is not something people have to worry about. Oh, the hatred these three generate is real enough, but just as real is the defense system the Lord Jesus has put into place to protect us.
The Savior's supreme sacrifice has made it possible for us to be free from the condemnation of sin, the consequences of Satan's temptations, and death's cold clutches. With Holy Spirit-given faith in Jesus as our Savior, we are sheltered, safe and secure.
Let these unholy three do their worst, believers can be at peace. David said it rightly: "Let all who take refuge in You rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread Your protection over them."
THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, the world is filled with the negative results of sin. May I rejoice in the Savior whose sacrifice has cleansed and keeps me. In Jesus' Name I give thanks. Amen.

PRAYERS FOR OUR SERVICEMEN
I have been compiling a list of servicemen who are members of St John's so that we can pray for them. Below is a list of them and where they are currently stationed. Please note that their stationing changes quickly, so this may not even be up to date, but it is the last known whereabouts that I have of these guys.
Danny Dreyer- Army- 2nd Lieutenant- Ranger, Ft. Benning, Georgia.
Sam Hargrove- Army- 2 Lieutenant- Ft Rucker, Alabama, will be going through helicopter flight school and other training
David Mincemeyer- Army- Army Specialist- Ft. Carson, CO
Jon Rahn- Navy- Hawaii, not sure of his rank at this time
David Tate- Air Force- 2nd Lieutenant- Jacksonville, Florida
Alex Walters- Navy- E4- Guam
Ryan Woolf- Air Force- Airman 1st Class- Buckley Air Force Base, near Denver, CO
If there are more out there that I just don't know about, please let me know, and I will include him/her on the list.
Also, if you would like your family member or friend included in this list, please reply to this email with all the information!
Pray for these guys. Some of these guys are in harm's way right now, others are training to put themselves in harm's way. All of them have volunteered to serve and protect their country (which is you).
