St. John's Group Email update on Marvin Rahn (Jim Rahn's dad)

My dad is home from the hospital. The VA decided he did not need therapy. He says he has allot of pain from the tube they inserted from his brain to his abdomen. Most of it is localized in his neck. It's giving him terrible headaches. His doctor says this will last for at least the next five weeks. That being said, he is much more coherent and aware than he has been in the last year. He no longer slurs his speech. He's also impatient and aggravated. For him, that's normal. I'm praying that the pain will be relieved and that the progress continues.

Thanks,
Jim Rahn

St. John's Group Email Update on Robyn McNew's brother Ken Meyer

We had a scare last night. Ken's kidneys and liver were shutting down. They got it under control with fluids and antibiotics. Moved to different room, but might move back today. Told nurse his name this morning. They are still trying to get the meds regulated so he is awake, but relaxed. He has been out of it for a few days. Hoping today is better.

St. John's Group Email Incoming seminarians need furniture

Just wanted to pass some info along and a really good way to find a "place to live" for any of our very gently used and maintained furniture and applicances.

Since "Call Day" at the Sem was May 4th.  We have many young brand new pastors (and alot of wives) getting ready to move to the cities of their "first" calls.  Many of them are beginning to search for some furniture and applicances for their new homes.  So...if you know of anyone remodeling their kitchens and wanting to sell or give away their appliances to make way for new - OR,  redecorating and wanting to make way for new furniture, lamps etc., They may want to consider sending a picture and a description of the item(s) they have to the "Life Transitions Office" at our St.Louis Concordia Seminary.  The person to contact would be Laura Moehlman.

Her email is:
Laura Moehlman <moehlmanl@csl.edu

Keep in mind to only give those items which are only being discarded because they want something new and/or different in their homes - not because they are way out of date or in disrepair.

St. John's Group Email trivia night canceled

Hi Pastor,

I have been talking with Ruth and we decided since only two tables of people have signed up for the trivia night, it would be best to cancel the event.  There is quite a bit going on that day with Les Sherman's memorial and Laney Woolf singing at the bookstore so if you could put out an email letting everyone know of the cancellation we would appreciate it.  Encourage everyone to go hear Laney sing at 7p.m.

Thanks,
Lois Boeger

St. John's Group Email prayer request from the Woolfs

Pastor, Billy's niece's boyfriend, Brett Gibbs, could use some prayers. He was burned severely today. He was airlifted to Barnes. He is on life support. He is in his 20's and has a 6 day old baby. Thanks.

St. John's Group Email FW: Federal Disaster Declaration

The President has approved a federal disaster declaration for individuals in the Missouri counties of Butler, Mississippi, New Madrid, St. Louis, and Taney.  (This does NOT include the City of St. Louis.)  Please help disseminate this information to our Lutheran congregations.  If you have family members or friends in these counties who may have been impacted by the recent tornadoes or flooding please strongly encourage them to register with FEMA, even if they are not sure if they would be eligible for assistance.

Individuals and business owners who sustained losses in the designated county can begin applying for assistance today by registering online at http://www.disasterassistance.gov, by web enabled mobile device at m.fema.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA(3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired.  The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (local time) seven days a week until further notice.
