We will have worship tomorrow at 8:30

We will  have  worship in the morning at 8:30.  Use your best judgment and be safe!

Church is still on, but be careful

There is snow on the ground and there are some slippery spots so be careful if you are coming to worship.  Use your best judgment.

Sunday school tonight at 4pm!!!

SUNDAY SCHOOL TONIGHT AT 4pm!!!  Since the forecast says there'll be lots of snow by morning, we are moving Sunday school to this afternoon at 4pm!  Tell your friends and come on down!!  Of course if it starts snowing earlier than that and the roads are already treacherous before 4pm you will just have to use your best discretion!

Come to church tonight at 5pm

Since it sounds like most people will be snowed in tomorrow, why not plan to come to church tonight instead?

Worship is at 5pm!!

DEVOTION:
Numbers 6:1-5    The Nazirite Vow

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, "Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When either a man or a woman makes a special vow, the vow of a Nazirite,[a] to separate himself to the Lord, he shall separate himself from wine and strong drink. He shall drink no vinegar made from wine or strong drink and shall not drink any juice of grapes or eat grapes, fresh or dried. All the days of his separation[b] he shall eat nothing that is produced by the grapevine, not even the seeds or the skins.  "All the days of his vow of separation, no razor shall touch his head. Until the time is completed for which he separates himself to the Lord, he shall be holy. He shall let the locks of hair of his head grow long.

A Nazirite was one who was set apart for the Lord's work.  Samson was a Nazirite.  Samuel was a Nazirite.  And John the Baptist was a Nazirite.  They were all set apart by God even before they were born.  It was an honor to be a Nazirite.  When you were a Nazirite you were considered holy.

There were some outward signs that a Nazirite was set apart.  The first that he was to separate himself from wine and strong drink.  The other was that he was never to cut his hair or his beard.  No razor was to be used on any part off his body.  I'm not sure what this all has to do with being set apart except that it is noticeable.

What are the marks of being set apart as a Christian.  How about the sacraments?  Being washed with water and Word is most definitely an outward mark.  Eating Christ's body and drinking Christ's blood are definitely an outward mark of being set apart.

There are also inward symbols that work their way out.  We call them the fruits of the Holy Spirit living in you.  They are definite signs of a Christian being set apart.  Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control are all marks of the Christian.  FORGIVENESS IS THE BIGGEST MARK.  Where there is Jesus there is the forgiveness of sins.

I urge you to show that you are set apart by your forgiveness, both the forgiveness given to you by Jesus as well as the forgiveness that flows from you to others by the power of the Holy Spirit!

Let us pray: Lord, make your marks in me to be seen by others that they might know Your love.  Amen.

MISSION STATEMENT:
What were the people to do with the land every seventh (Sabbath) year?  Leviticus 25   the seventh year of the seventh year of the sabbatical is called shmita and that year the land is to lie fallow.  Nothing to be planted or harvested for that year. (Thanks Dianne)

Today's QUIZ: What are the purification regulations for a woman who has given birth to a son? How is it different for a daughter?

Purification after childbirth, Leviticus 12:2-5  A woman who gives birth to a son will be ceremonially unclean for 7 days, just as
she is unclean during her monthly period.  On the 8th day the boy is circumcised.  Then the woman must wait 33 days
to be purified from her bleeding.  She must not touch anything sacred or go the sanctuary until the days of her purification
are over.   If she give birth to a daughter, for two weeks the woman will be unclean, as during her period.  Then she must
wait 66 days to be purified from her bleeding.  For boys the period of uncleanness is 40 days, but for a girl it is 80 days.

"Prove It"
By Rev. Wayne Palmer
February 25, 2015

Read John 4:46-54.
(Jesus said) "Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe" (John 4:48).

Lenten Devotion 2015 coverWhen Jesus' enemies in Jerusalem learned He was becoming more popular than John the Baptist, He left and returned to Galilee in the north. Huge crowds gather, but Jesus knows their faith is shallow and superficial. When an important official comes to ask the Lord to heal his dying son, Jesus challenges the entire crowd: "Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe."

How deep is your faith? Can you take Him at His word, or do you insist on more? If you listen closely you almost pick up a tone of defiance in Jesus' voice ... or is it sorrow? He wants them to believe, but they must believe on His terms, not theirs.

The official knew only one thing really mattered: his son was dying and only Jesus could save him. So he begged Jesus to come down and heal him. But Jesus didn't go. Instead, He sent the father away with a promise: "Go; your son will live." Would you be able to trust Jesus and go?

The official did. He accepted Jesus' words and on the way home he learned his faith had been well founded: his son was healed.

We don't need to see miraculous signs to believe in Jesus as our Savior. God uses old familiar words to give us faith; He uses water and His Word to wash away our sins, and He joins His body and blood to simple bread and wine to forgive us all our sins.

Don't stay on the outside waiting to see some miracle in your life before you'll follow Jesus. Learn a lesson from the official above: the stakes are life and death, heaven and hell.

THE PRAYER: Lord Jesus, give me faith to trust Your words and promises through every circumstance in my life. Amen.

DEVOTION: The land must not be sold permanently, because the land is mine and you are but aliens and my tenants.  Throughout he country that you hold as a possession, you must provide for the redemption of Israel. Leviticus 25:23-24

The Israelites had a rule from God that every fifty years they would have a year of jubilee.  In that year every person's property was to be returned to him.  So if, on year one, you were poor and had to sell some of your property to be able to provide for your family, it would be that person's property for the next 49 years or whenever you were able to buy it back.  On the fiftieth year, by God's law, the person you sold it to was absolutely required to give it back to you.  This was to show that every bit of that property was actually the Lord's property and the people were just tenants.

My family's farm has been in the family since it was homesteaded back in the mid 1800's.  I think 1859 to be exact, but I'm not absolutely sure.  My mom and dad own it right now,  When they go to heaven it will go into a trust for me and my sisters..  Hopefully either one of my nieces or nephews or maybe even one of my own kids will want to buy it from us, but if not I have a lot of other Klaustermeier relatives.  Hopefully one of them will want to buy it.

Ultimately there will come a day, the ultimate Year of Jubilee, the eternal Sabbath, when the land will be completely redeemed by God Himself.  It is his after all.  On that day Jesus will come to judge the living and the dead and those who are alive in Jesus will live in His good and perfect land forever.  Until then we are patient and we live off this land, and God provides for us through this land, by His good and gracious will.  We live patiently until then, knowing all the time that it is God's land and God takes care of us how He sees fit!

Let us pray:  Lord God, thank you for giving us this wonderful land to live in.  Help us to treat it as yours!  Amen.
