DEVOTION:  "Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities.  They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death.  Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.  He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave."  Psalm 107:17-20

Sometimes we disappoint ourselves and others, don't we?  We let ourselves down.  We make grand plans and don't fulfill them.  We try to be good and we aren't.  We do things that seem fun and silly at the time and we pay for them later.  We offend people without ever meaning to by our foolish actions.  I could go on and on.

Daily we can look back at our lives and see a lot of things unfinished, unaccomplished and not even begun.  How many times have you looked back at your life and said, "I wish I would have done things differently".

We all have our faults and failures.  Every one of us can count hundreds of time when, in our foolish humanity, we were rebellious toward god and His way of truth.

Yet, God gives us hope and a future!!  He has forgiven and forgotten that less than stellar past of yours.  He gives you and second, third, and even a hundredth chance.  We can cry to the Lord in our pitiful distress and He will save us.  He will lift us up out of the muck and mire of sin and give us new life.

Then, with the power of the Holy Spirit we can LIVE a new life.  We can live without the guilt of sin weighing us down.  We can look to the future knowing that Christ is in it!  That no matter what happened yesterday, today is a new day full of God's grace, truth, and love.  We can live as His children!!

Let us pray: Lord God help me to learn from my past and then forget about it so that I may move forward in praise, to you and in the love and joy you provide.  Amen.

"Confused"

September 26, 2013
blackeyed SusanFor I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes .... Romans 1:16a

When I was young, I had a hero: the Lone Ranger. How could you not like a guy who didn't shoot to kill, who rode a white horse, and never stuck around for any embarrassing "Thank you, masked man. Whoever you are?"

When I became an adult, I had a hero: Clayton Moore, the fellow who played the Lone Ranger on television. Knowing he was the hero of millions of children, he tried to live his life worthy of that honor. (Try to find some star or athlete or singer or politician who does that today!)

Most of us have idols. Ten-year-old Erin Shead of Lucy Elementary School in Millington, Tennessee, has an idol. When her teacher asked her to write an essay about a person she idolized, she wrote, "I look up to God. I love Him and Jesus, and Jesus is His earthly Son. I also love Jesus." I hope that Shead keeps her promise that God will "always be the number one Person I look up to."

That might be easier said than done. You see, Shead's teacher told her she could not use God as an idol for the assignment. She had to take her essay home because it couldn't stay on school property.

Of course, it is possible this might have been an honest mistake made by a teacher who doesn't understand the First Amendment. It's possible, but not likely. A spokesman for the Shelby School District said, "Teachers are prohibited from promoting religious beliefs in the classroom." He also said, "The school doesn't have a policy about students expressing their religious beliefs."

So, why couldn't Shead write about God? The district's spokesman didn't have an answer.

Amazing! Last week the U.S. Supreme Court said, "In God We Trust" will stay on our coins and during that same week a teacher in Tennessee basically said, "We may trust God, but we can't write about Him."

All of this means I have a new hero.

I'm going to look up to and, as best as I can, encourage students like Erin Shead who not only love the Lord, but aren't afraid to say so. Sadly, they are growing up in a country that is mighty confused. It is my prayer all of us old veterans may do all we can to encourage these young folks to be witnesses for the Savior who gave His life, so they might have life.

Oh, by the way, you should know the teacher approved of Shead's second choice of heroes: Michael Jackson.

THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, be with our courts and our schools. May they learn to send a right and consistent message to the young of America. And, even if they don't, may our young trust in and hold fast to You and Your only Son, their Savior. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

FW: Liberty Christian Academy seeks new admin for the 2014 / 2015 school year

Friends:

If you know of anyone who might be interested in an administrative position at a small Christian K – 12 school in Wright City, MO, share this letter with them.

The current administrator is retiring in June 2014 and the school is seeking someone to fill that position.    My son goes to this school and we both really love it.

Keep the school in  your prayers to find the right person for the job.

Thank you.

Holy Rosary Basketball signups are underway

Hey 5th grade boys and parents,

I am looking forward to coaching again this year as we work toward a winning season!!  Below is a letter from the director, Terry Raterman.  There is no specific start date yet, nor are there times or days for practices.  I will find that out soon.  All the pertinent info you need to know for now is below.  Please note that the boys will each have to have ID cards this year.  Try to get those asap because they are kind of a pain in the rear.   Let me know if and when you get signed up.  Thanks

Coach Klaustermeier

Holy Rosary basketball is just around the corner.  We hope to have teams in grades 3 thru 8 for both boys and girls. There is also a Juvenile program for our high school students, who do not participate in their high school basketball teams.

For those of you new to the program (and those that have been with us for a while), our parish joined the CYC (Catholic Youth Council) last year. Our schedule consists of 10 league games, plus tournaments.  The 2013-14 season starts on the first Saturday of January and runs thru the end of March, and games are usually played on week-ends.  Practices will begin in November.

We are having online signups again this year. Our website is:  https://holy-rosary-catholic-church.sportssignup.com .  The first thing you will do is create an account (you only need one per family). Once you are logged in, you will add your children that will be playing. If you are coaching or assisting, you can sign up to do that at this time.  Once you add children, you won't have to add them every year, for every sport. The next step is to click on "Basketball Registration". Complete the registration and billing information.

The fee this year will be $85—which includes league fees, tournaments, uniform, practice jersey, a team picture and helps with gym maintenance. Please, if there are any uniforms out there—please turn them in at this time. Players in grades 5 and above will be required to get id cards, before games start. You can get them online or go to St. Louis on Kingshighway. For more information about id cards see:                   http://www.cycstl.net/id-card-dates

For more information about the CYC you can go to the website:  http://cycstcharles.com/index.php

We need a few coaches for the 3rd grades, and for the Juvenile teams.  So, if you would be interested, or if you know of someone who would be willing to donate their time coaching basketball---please contact me right away.  If we do not have a coach for a particular team, then we will have to drop that team from the program.  In the past, we have been very fortunate finding coaches for the various teams.  It takes a lot of time and dedication—and I hope that we will be successful in finding qualified individuals who would like to participate in our program.

We are also looking for high school students that are interested in reffing.

As in volleyball, parents will be assigned a time to work in our gym during home games or tournaments.  We will have home games on at least 13 different Saturdays, plus host four tournaments.  Your team will be assigned a day or days to work. Your coach or a volunteer will contact you about specific times. If you don't show up to work, a $50 fee will be assessed, payable before the next week-end of basketball games.   It will take the cooperation of all of us to have a successful season.

If you have any questions concerning any of the above information, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you,

Terry Raterman

"God First"

September 25, 2013

Eads bridge(Jesus said) "No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money." Matthew 6:24
* The other day I found myself driving behind a car that was doing 27 miles an hour on a street where the posted speed was 55 mph.

* Last week I had to jump out of the way of a vehicle that was backing up in a grocery store parking lot.

* Last month I laid on the horn to get the attention of a driver who seemed to be headed directly toward my vehicle.

* Thankfully, none of those incidents caused any damage. That was not the case in Waldorf, Maryland, when a woman crashed her vehicle into a tree and ended up in a lake. She was okay, but her Hyundai wasn't designed to sit upside down in five feet of water.

These four, seemingly unrelated incidents, have one thing in common. Have you guessed what that unifying factor might be? You get an A for the day if you said, "Those cars were all being driven by someone who was also texting on their cell phones."

Oh, there is one other thing those drivers have in common: they all go to prove there is truth in the words of the Savior who told us no man can serve two masters.

Now if I stopped all of my drivers and asked them -- do you think you can give proper attention to driving and texting? -- I am sure they would all give me a sincere and affirmative answer. They would say something like, "Of course, I can. I wouldn't text and drive if I thought any differently."

Well, they might think they can do two things equally well, but reality says they are mistaken.

That is also true for us. Either we love God or we love the world. Either the Lord is first in our lives or He is not. And in case anyone is wondering, the Lord is not content to run a distant second or third in the hearts of His people.

We can understand why that would be.

After all, He has decided to reach down and save His wayward children from themselves. He has, in His grace, done that which was necessary to rescue us from the clutches of sin, the devil, and death. In the Person of His Son, through Jesus' perfect life and total sacrifice, He has given hope, forgiveness and eternal life to all who are brought to faith in the risen Redeemer.

Now He asks that those who have been rescued show their appreciation by remembering what He has done and keeping Him first in all they do.

THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, grant us the wisdom and self-knowledge to realize we are not the world's only exception to the rule: no man can serve two masters. Help us acknowledge all You have done for us and live our lives thankfully. In the Savior's Name I ask it. Amen.
