DEVOTION: When Haman entered, the king asked him, "What should be done for the man the king delights to honor?"  Now Haman thought to himself, "Who is there that the king wouldrather honor than me?"  Esther 6:6

Kind of comical, don't you think?  But how many of us really think this way?  All we want it approval.  All we want is to be honored.  We think of ourselves as the most important person in our lives most of the time and so when we think of being honored, although we might feign humility, we truly do feel better about ourselves.

Haman was a treacherous, evil man who couldn't stand it when someone else was honored.  His ambition to the throne caused him much jealously, hatred, and even caused him to force the king to decree that all Jews should be killed.

Now, you might not try to enact a decree that all people who stand against you be killed, but you do harbor thoughts that are quite less than God pleasing against those who stand against you and who are in your way of getting what you want in life.

Remember that the stories of people like Haman in the Bible, are ultimately stories about us.  It is a story of humanity that causes us to remember our sins and our need for our a Savior.   Think about how your life, at times, is just like Haman's.  THink about how your ambition often times gets you in trouble.

Then think about how your Lord Jesus loves you in spite of all those times that you act like Haman.  Realize that he works everything together for your good, just like he did for Mordecai and Esther.  In the end you will survive and you will win on account of Christ!

Prayer:  Lord God thank you for giving me the victory in spite of my failure.  Thank you for working it all out on my behalf in Jesus!  Amen.

G.L. WOODS TO SPEAK on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 6, at 6:30pm at CHURCH!!
His story is an amazing one of transformation.  IN 2004 he was flying down the dirt track in his dirt bike, when he crashed and flew over his handlbars landing on his neck which instantly pralyzed him from the neck down.  His life changed in an instant.  yet, God did a miracle in him.  Not only did he give him back his lower body so that he was able to walk, but he gave him a vibrant faith and the ability to speak boldly about it.  Come and hear his story!  Go to www.glwoods.com to learn more about his story.  He is a native of Jonesburg.

STEWARDSHIP SPOLIGHT FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER IS PATRIOT PACKAGES
As we all know, our military forces are still spread throughout the world.  Many of our loved ones are deployed and arond the world and on bases throughout our own country.  Ptriot Packages, formerly known as G4U "Goodies for You" is a small yet effective way that we can care for all those men and women in a very real and practical way.  A group of people get together once a month to fill care packages to send out.  These packages have very specific items that these soldiers request, that are scarce or nonexistent where they are.

What they need from us is money so that they can buy the specific items they need.  As always, make checks payable to St. John's and in the memo line write "patriot Packages".  Also, as always, this should be above and beyond your regular offerings.
