DEVOTION:
(Jesus said) "Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life." Revelation 2:10
"The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men gang aft agley." That was the way Robert Burns said it. Me, I'm not that poetic. I prefer this: even when we try hard to do what is right, things can still get mightily messed up.
A cleaning woman at Dortmund, Germany's Ostwall Museum would agree. The zealous soul noticed something was wrong with a piece of artwork done by Martin Kippenberger. She spotted a major stain on the presentation, which is called, "When It Starts Dripping From the Ceiling." It's a presentation valued at $1.1 million.
Various news agencies describe the art as being made up of "wooden slats under which a rubber trough was placed with a thin beige layer of paint representing dried rain water."
Apparently, the cleaning lady thought the "dried rain water" was just that, and she cleaned it up. Conscientious soul that she is -- and in the best of German traditions -- she cleaned that spot until it was -- well, until it was spotless.
The curators of the museum say the piece is ruined beyond repair. And the cleaning woman? Well, I pray you will forgive me if I say her reputation remains ... spotless. (Sorry about that.)
But back to the point: most Daily Devotioners would agree there are times when their best intentions haven't always worked out the way they hoped, and almost all of us can think back on times when we tried to say or do something to help someone and our involvement was unapplauded and unappreciated.
So what is a person to do?
Many folks end up concluding the best thing for them to do is throw in the towel and never get involved with anything or anyone.
All of us can rejoice that Jesus, throughout His life, continued to do what was right and continued to follow the Father's will. This He did when the disciples didn't understand Him, when one of His friends betrayed Him, when His church condemned Him, and the people He had come to save called for His crucifixion.
Thank heaven He did because as Isaiah said, "by His stripes we are healed" (see Isaiah 53:5).
And so, my friends, let this devotion be an encouragement to you: continue on doing the best you can, whenever you can, to whomever you can, as often as you can. And try to do it with your work always being in harmony with the Father's will.
THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, help us lead our lives glorifying You and not longing for the approval of humankind. This we ask in the Name of Jesus who did just that. In His Name we pray it. Amen.

YESTERDAY'S QUIZ: What did Abraham call the place where he almost sacrificed his son Isaac and why? "The Lord will provide" because on the mountain the Lord provided a ram for a sacrifice. (Dolores DeBlaze is our new one day champion!)

TODAY'S QUIZ: Who was Rebekah?
_____________________________________________________________________________________________
CATECHISM:
8th commandment: You shall not covet your neighbor's house.
Question: What does this mean
Answer:
We should fear and love God so that we do not scheme to get our neighbor's inheritance or house, or get it in a way which only appears right, but help and be of service to him in keeping it.

New worship service starting on Sunday, January 29 at 11am.
BELOW AREE SOME QUESTIONS THAT HAVE COME UP AND THE ANSWERS TO THOSE QUESTIONS:
1. Will we need to change the usher schedule? Not at this time. For now we are going to treat it as we would a Saturday service as far as that is concerned. If it takes off and we find that ushers are necessary for this service we will change it later in the year.
2. Will this change the other services in any way? NO. Nothing about our other services will change. The 11am service is just an additional option for those who want it.
3. What kind of music will there be? It will be a variety of songs, (children's songs, contemporary songs, familiar songs), but the music will be different than our traditional services

What we ask of you from now until January 29 is that you support this endeavor, that you invite people who would, for whatever reason, like to attend this type of worship, and that you pray for this endeavor and for our church in general that it owuld be blessed beyond measure in 2012.
If you have any skills or talents that you feel would benefit this service please contact me at 359-1061.
Then on January 29, COME to the service and participate.
The vision is that this will be a great blessing to our church and that it will fit the needs of young families, kids, teenagers, and the young at heart so that we can bring more people into the body of Christ this year than ever before.

PASTOR NOW HAS TEXTING ON HIS PHONE
I know it is about five years too late, but I have finally joined the 21st century's most used form of communication. If texting is the best way to communicate with you, I urge you to give me your cell phone number so I can communicate better with you in 2012. I am even thinking of sending out a "Bible Verse Text of the Day" to all who would want it.
I especially want to urge our young people to send me their cell numbers so I can better communicate with them.
