DEVOTION: O my people, hear my teaching, listen to the words of my mouth. Psalm 78:1
How many times have you told your kids to LISTEN, or grumbled when they didn't? How many times have you failed to listen to your spouse when he or she was trying to tell you something? How many times have you been sitting in church while the pastor is preaching and all you heard was "blah, blah, blah" even though what the preacher was preaching was very important and useful for your life?
Now think about how many times you have failed to listen to God or just plain forgot what the Lord has told you? Here's a test on that: How many times in the last week have you worried about something? didn't Jesus tell you not to worry? Didn't he say that we should consider the birds of the air or the flowers of the field and how they don't work or labor but the Lord still takes care of them. How much more important are you than a blade of grass or a bird?
We could go on and on about how we daily fail to listen to our Lord God. That is why God sent His Son to save us. If we always listened to God and did what He told us to do there would be no need for a Savior. yet, we do fail daily and much. We don't listen to God's Word nor do we do His will. Therefore God, who is rich in mercy, knew exactly what we would need. We would need someone who always listens to His Father. We would need someone who would take our place under the law, serving the Lord all the way to death, even death on a cross. We would need Jesus.
Thank the Lord today for His perfect will. Thank Him for what He has done! And thank Him for saving you from all of your failure to listen to Him.
Let us pray: Lord God even though we don't listen you don't stop loving us. Thank you for your unfailing love and your mercy toward us. Amen.
