DEVOTION:  Psalm 104:27-35 (ESV)

27 These all look to you,
    to give them their food in due season.
28 When you give it to them, they gather it up;
    when you open your hand, they are filled with good things.
29 When you hide your face, they are dismayed;
    when you take away their breath, they die
    and return to their dust.
30 When you send forth your Spirit,[a] they are created,
    and you renew the face of the ground.

31 May the glory of the Lord endure forever;
    may the Lord rejoice in his works,
32 who looks on the earth and it trembles,
    who touches the mountains and they smoke!
33 I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;
    I will sing praise to my God while I have being.
34 May my meditation be pleasing to him,
    for I rejoice in the Lord.
35 Let sinners be consumed from the earth,
    and let the wicked be no more!
Bless the Lord, O my soul!
Praise the Lord!

Every day I marvel at the omnipotence of the Lord.  I can't imagine how everything is controlled by him.  Even our very breath is in his hands.  It boggles the mind.... which is also his.

What more can I say?  Realize that God is in control!  Relinquish control of your life to him!  Trust in him to give you all the good things you need and to take things away that you don't!  Surrender to him and he will lift you up!

Let us pray:  Lord, you are my maker and redeemer!  Help me to put my whole trust in you and you alone.  Amen.

OPERATION BACKPACK FOR SEPTEMBER  IS CANNED FRUIT!!
Many children in our community are very poor.  They are able to get some of their meals at school during the week, but often go hungry on weekends.  Operation backpack is a way that our community has decided to help these kids.

Every month throughout the school year, each church participating will take one food item and collect just that food item.  At the end of the month the food will be delivered to school.  The school officials along with volunteers will distribute the food to kids backpacks to take home.
Throughout the month of September we will be collecting canned fruit . All size cans and even individual portions will be accepted.  The fruit will be delivered to the schools October 1.   We will have a box in the narthex for deposits.
