Houston Baby!
Jonas's counts are through the roof!
That means he is healthy and feeling fine.
He got his chemo and we will be on the road tonight headed to Texas!
There is an Arbonne/Scentsy party tonight that I had planned to go to. I'm sorry, I won't be there. Thank you to Amy Brockelmeyer and Jessica Vandenbos who are donating 100% of their commissions to support Jonas! I had really looked forward to a visit with all my girlfriends before we headed out of town, but that is just not in the cards. If you or anyone you know needs to purchase gifts for the upcoming holiday, this is a great opportunity! There is a FB event set up on the Fight the Fight, Jonas Borchert page.
PS. The first thing Jonas does when he comes home from the hospital is to switch on the Scensy warmer next to his bed. Love it!
Melissa Gouldsmith, I think of you so often, too! I have your number in my folder if we get inn a pinch. Thank you. You and Shelli Cornell have Jonas' love, respect and deepest admiration. I know why.
Debi Hartley, Christine Laird, and Jessica Bobal, Susan Murphy and Brette, thank you for helping me get Jonas through his Sub-Q shots. Jonas gets an injection in his leg every evening. We have to do it here at home. I think I should have been having someone witness them each time! Jessica, special thanks for helping him Man-up and calm down. Soooooooooo much easier now.
Thank you to Doug and Christine Laird who are flying Joel back from Houston with their frequent-flyer miles! What a relief! Now I can have a vehicle down there. Not that I know where anything is, but it will be invaluable to have our own transportation. And speaking of transportation -- Susan, Karen and Bill, again, thanks for the use of the wheel chair!
Barb Green, Brette wanted me to send you a big hug and tell you "Thank You. = ) You always did have a way of seeing things no one else did."
So we are Texas-bound! I wonder if we will come back with thick southern accents? I will post to ya'll again once we get there to let you know we had a safe journey. If we run a little late, its only because we couldn't contain our passion for Roadside Oddities!

Safe travels. I am glad the flight for Joel worked out. I looked into the possibility for you all/him to travel on my sisters travel passes (she is a flight attendant) but it would have required a layover and no guarentee on a seat since it is stand by.

DEVOTION:

He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, He has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live. Ecclesiastes 3:11-12

A few weeks ago I was in Sidney, Nebraska, to celebrate Trinity's 125th anniversary.

The people and pastor were fantastic, the food incredible, and the gemutlichkeit beyond compare. The only thing which wasn't wonderful was the weather. Just a few days before the celebration, a hail storm stripped the corn, destroyed gardens and generally made a mess of things.

They're not alone. As I've wandered the nation, I have seen one weather-related disaster after another.

One place has a drought, while another is cleaning up after a flood. One place is setting records for heat, and another needs some warm sun to bring in the crops. One town is decimated by a tornado, and another is threatened by wildfire. After a while a person starts to wonder is this always the way things have been or is this an unusual year?

Well, the answer is in: this is an unusual year. 2011 has now officially tied the record for billion-dollar weather disasters. In case you're wondering, the National Weather Service says that dubious number stands at nine. So far this year, weather has caused more than $35 billion in damages.

The experts say there is more to come.

Now I don't know whether the experts are right or wrong in their predictions. I do know the writer of Ecclesiastes was on the money when he said something like there is a time for everything, and in all those things God will remain in control. We can't understand God's ways, nor can we figure out all of His thinking. Even so, the Lord has made everything beautiful in its time, and there is nothing better for us to do than to appreciate it, be joyful and do good as long as we live.

This is why I bring up the folks at Trinity in Sidney.

During my short time with them I didn't hear anyone complain about the corn being ruined. The mess in the fields wasn't their focus. Now I can share that many of those folks commented how glad they were that the wheat crop had been harvested, and the rest talked about the blessings of their pastor and their church. All came together to visit with old friends and made new.

In short, the presence of the living Lord Jesus, the Savior who had been with them for 125 years was there on that day. The Christ who had blessed births and weddings, who had provided comfort in deaths and down times, was the unseen but very real Person of Honor at that festivity.

Now, I don't want you to think that the people of Trinity are perfect. They're not. But for one day -- one very special day of witnessing -- that little congregation showed that there's nothing better than to be joyful in Jesus.

THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, this sinful world is bound to produce disasters and disappointments. No matter what comes my way may I realize You are there, keeping watch over me. Because of Your presence may my heart be allowed to transcend the negative and rejoice. In Jesus' Name I ask it. Amen.

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP THINGS COMING UP!

1. Sunday, September 25- Lead worship; I need ushers, a reader and some song leaders. Let me know if you are interested.

2. Sept 30 and October 1- Firstfruits weekend at the ROCK. Pastor Randy Wilken invites groups to come down to St. Louis on the first weekend of each month to serve, worship, and fellowship with other Christians from around the area. We are signed up to go down there Friday, Sept 30 and Sat, Oct 1! It is an unforgetable and wonderful experience. Make plans ot attend!

3. Last Sunday of each month- HANGING OUT WITH PASTOR- We will meet at different time and at different locations throughout the year to have some fun and to get into God's Word. In August we will meet to clean up the highway and have a picnic after worship. Most of the time we will meet on Sunday evenings.

Invite your friends to all of these things. It is a great way for them to see that Christianity is pretty cool and can be a lot of fun!

For PEGGY GILKEY who is recovering from knee replacement surgery.

For JONAS BORCHERT, grandson of Don Nolte, who continues to be up and down because of chemotherapy treatments.
