DEVOTION:  Deuteronomy 7:6-9  English Standard Version (ESV)

"For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the Lord set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but it is because the Lord loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers, that the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,

The only reason God has mercy on us is because he loves us.  It is NOT because of any merit or worthiness in me.  It is NOT because I go to church.  It is NOT because I dedicated my life to Christ.  It is NOT because I am a good person.  It is NOT because I have it all together.

It is only because He chose to love me and have mercy on me.  He sent His Son to die for me, before I was even a person on this earth.  Jesus chose to suffer and die even before I took my first breath. "IT IS BECAUSE GOD LOVES YOU AND IS KEEPING THE OATH HE SWORE TO YOUR FATHERS."

So whatever you're going through today, whatever guilt is keeping you from a right relationship with Jesus, whatever pain you may have caused, whatever tough circumstances you may be dealing with, know that the Almighty, omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent Lord of all creation loves little, insignificant you!

Prayer: Lord, thank you for loving me so much that you died for me, even though I don't deserve it.  Amen.

YESTERDAY'S QUIZ :

Why is Jeremiah called the "weeping prophet"?

Great answer Don!  Thanks!

His calling was to warn and prophesy the to the people of Judah hammering them with prophesy after prophesy only to be rebuked.  The land was full of vice and idolatry.  The people slew the prophets and would have vices and idolatry go unrebuked.  He foretold of the punishment that was at hand, the destruction of Jerusalem and the 70 year Babylonian captivity.  This wore on him as they would not listen to his warnings.  For over forty years, down to the captivity, he had to say hard things to obstinately wicked people. He had to look on while the people grew from bad to worse, always wanting to kill him, and putting him to much hardship. He had to look o with his own eyes how the land was destroyed and the people carried away captive, amid great misery and bloodshed.  Afterward he had to preach and suffer in Egypt, for it is believed that he was stoned to death by the Jews in Egypt.  I'd cry too.
