DEVOTION: (from Lutheran Hour Ministries)
Jesus said) "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." John10:10

Seventeen-year-old Australian Shaun Wilson-Miller has died. The cause of death: the second heart which had been transplanted into him, had been rejected.

Before he died, Wilson-Miller said a number of things -- things which are pretty profound for a young man.

The first thing of note is that Wilson-Miller was realistic as to his future. In a video he commented, "I won't be here for as long as I thought." It is sad so many other folks don't come to a similar conclusion. Indeed, many live as if they will never die, as if they never needed a Savior.

Wilson-Miller also said, "This (life) has been an awesome ride, I have no regrets. Live life to the fullest because you never know what's going to happen."

Although Wilson-Miller said he had no regrets, later in the video he admitted to one sadness he had encountered. While in the hospital he fell in love with another heart patient. He said, "The hardest thing for me is leaving her, knowing that I won't get to marry her, to have kids together, to grow old together. That is what makes me sad.

As I said, pretty profound thoughts from a young man facing death.

Most of us would agree with Wilson-Miller ... this world can be a pretty awesome place. Every day the Lord surrounds us with opportunities and challenges, difficulties, decisions -- and His grace. Even more, He wants us to live that life to its fullest.

True, because of sin our lives will never have the perfection the Lord had originally established. But, with Jesus, we can have an abundant life.

Because of His life and death, we who acknowledge Him as Savior have forgiveness and eternity. Because of His ongoing presence and the blessings from the Holy Spirit, we know we are not alone. Because of His victory over the grave, we know that we too shall rise.

Yes, I like Shaun Wilson-Miller. He was right about many things and wrong in this: because of Jesus and the salvation He has given to us, His people know exactly what is going to happen.

THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, for having given Your Son's life so my life may be filled and overflowing, I am thankful. Now I pray for the others in the world who are not sure of today, tomorrow and eternity. May they be brought to know and believe in the Scriptural truth which says, "Because Jesus lives, we shall live also." In His Name. Amen.
