DEVOTION:  Malachi 3:13-18

¹³ "Your words have been hard against me, says the Lord. But you say, 'How have we spoken against you?' ¹⁴ You have said, 'It is vain to serve God. What is the profit of our keeping his charge or of walking as in mourning before the Lord of hosts? ¹⁵ And now we call the arrogant blessed. Evildoers not only prosper but they put God to the test and they escape.'"

¹⁶ Then those who feared the Lord spoke with one another. The Lord paid attention and heard them, and a book of remembrance was written before him of those who feared the Lord and esteemed his name. ¹⁷ "They shall be mine, says the Lord of hosts, in the day when I make up my treasured possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him. ¹⁸ Then once more you shall see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him.

The distinction is quite simple today.  Do you fear the Lord or don't you? Do you love the Lord or do you reject him?  Are you the Lord's or aren't you? 

We tend to make it too complicated as human beings.  We think that it's all about us, how we live, how we worship, where we worship, with whom we associate, and all manner of other things.  It's all very clear what God wants.  He wants us to be for Him, with Him, and in Him. 

Being the Lord's doesn't mean everything is going to be right for you on the earth.  In fact, it's just the opposite.  Since the world is sinful, Christ is at odds with the world, and since you are in the world, you will suffer.  At the same time, there is peace with Christ and Christ blesses us in many ways here on this earth.  The Holy Spirit lives in us and so we have all of those fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control.   Because we can't go to God, God comes to us. 

Live in that fruit of the Spirit today, knowing that one day we will live eternally with Father, Son, and Holy Spirit face to face. 

Prayer: Lord, we thank you for coming down to us and dwelling in us so we can experience a bit of heaven on earth.  Help us to continue to be in you and with you.  Amen.

Due to low sign up there will not be a meal at church this Saturday.  All donations will be brought to Agape and distributed to those in need.

Our high school is collecting new or slightly used shoes to raise money for those in need in Warren County through the "Care to Learn" Program.  Bring your slightly used and new shoes to church!

GENERAL PRAYER

For LEW FELDKAMP as he recovers from heart valve replacement surgery. He is at home.

For WILMA WEIGLE who has been placed on hospice care.

For ARCIE POINTER, Cheri' Hofeldt's mom, who has been placed on hospice care.

For PAT GERDING, Vickie McRae's brother in law, who is paralyzed, but is recovering at a nursing home.

 

For NORM BELINSKY, a friend of Jim and Vickie McRae, who is on hospice care and is nearing the end of his life.

 

For LOIS BOEGER'S MOM, who has been placed on hospice care due to cancer.  She is at home.

 

For DENNIS PERREY, as he is doing much better, is able to drive, but is not allowed to go hunting yet.    He is still in a bit of pain from time to time.
