DEVOTION:  "Do not turn away after useless idols.  They can do you no good, nor can they rescue you, because they are useless.  For the sake of His great name the Lord will not reject his people, because He was pleased to make you His own."  The Story, p. 141

This weekend I got to see, once again, the power of God's Word and what praising God for a whole weekend can do.  Although the kids didn't get a whole lot of sleep, and although they were cranky at times, I heard from many of them how wonderful and awesome it was.  Many bought t-shirts and cds of the band.  Many made new friends and reconnected with old ones.  Many worked hard to help out.  We got to meet the lady who is going to be our DCE intern next year, Miss Kelsey Overbeck, and most of all WE ALL GREW IN OUR FAITH AND GOT TO RECHARGE OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS!

Now, the trick is to keep it going throughout the week.  As the kids go back to school, back to the daily grind and the challenges of the world and their own sinful nature, we need to be continually praying for them and for their families and friends so that they can fight against the devil, the world, and their own sinful nature and so that they can continue to have peace and rest in Jesus!

In the same way we need to pray for ourselves and our own families for the same thing.  It is so easy for us to turn to "worthless idols" and useless things to try to find satisfaction and peace.  Satan is constantly putting temptation after temptation in front of us.  Pray to the Lord of comfort and peace to fill you with His joy and forgiveness that you may fight against all of that and overcome to gain the victory!

Prayer:  Lord God, bless us and keep us in our faith that we may continue to trust in you as we go back to our daily grind after a day of praising You and resting in You.  Amen.

Ladies Aid needs kitchen clean up help at 2:30 today.

Our Ladies Aid is doing their second funeral luncheon in three days.   They are in need of people to help clean up after the luncheon today starting around 2:30.  The luncheon will probably begin between 2 and 2:30.

Please stop by to help even if just for a little bit.

Thanks,
Pastor

REVISED: Thurs. Mar. 27 , 2014

I've added a new question of the day and noted that Barb Dreyer is playing piano Saturday night.

DEVOTION:   Saul replied, "When I saw that the men were scattering, and that you did not come at the set time, and that the Philistines were assembling at Mikmash, I thought, 'Now the Philistines will come down against me at Gilgal, and I have not sought the Lord's favor.'  So I felt compelled to offer the burnt offering."
"You have done a foolish thing," Samuel said.  "You have not kept the command the Lord your God gave you; if you had, he would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time.  But now your kingdom will not endure; the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him ruler of his people, because you have not kept the Lord's command."

How often do we do exactly what Saul did.  We are impatient in our waiting for the Lord to do what He needs and wants to do for us and so we take matters into our own hand, sometimes doing things that go directly against God's will.  We act dishonestly in our business just to get ahead.  We turn to other worldly things for comfort and peace, because God is taking too long to give us the peace that we desire.  We aren't getting the satisfaction out of the relationships that God has given us so we seek out other, ungodly relationships to fulfill our own wants and needs.

What Samuel says to Saul, he also says to us.  If you would have just waited, if you would have been patient and looked for God to do His will, if you would have done God's will in this matter, he would have established you for all time.

Guess what, all of us fail so none of us will live forever.  All of us are impatient little children who want what we want and want it right now.  Sometimes it is best for us to wait.  It is a good thing when we experience delayed gratification so that we actually appreciate what we do get.

We especially will benefit from that delayed gratification when it comes to our salvation.  We wait as long as God sees fit for that day when we will no longer experience the effects of sin.  And that is good, because we know, without a doubt, that God will do what He has promised for us.  He always does!

Let us pray:  Lord God, help me to be patient.  Help me to give my needs and desires to you in prayer and then wait on You to do Your will in all of those circumstances.  Amen.

letchworth, stream(Jesus said) "And that servant who knew his master's will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating. But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. ...." Luke 12:47-48a
Guy Lanchester is a 46-year-old man who lives in Florida.

Recently, Lanchester was interviewed by a reporter from television station KTVJ. Before going any further, I should tell you Lanchester had recently been arrested for possession of cocaine. The police first became suspicious of him when they saw him go behind a flower pot and try to hide a small plastic bag filled with white powder. When it was obvious the police were coming directly at him, Lanchester tried to hide the bag amidst the plants.

The ruse didn't work. The police retrieved the bag and then they put Lanchester under arrest.

So far there is nothing in this drug bust which calls for a TV interview. Those kinds of arrests happen all the time. But Lanchester did do one thing which was newsworthy: he said, "I didn't know it was against the law to possess cocaine in Florida." Well, it is against the law in Florida, just as it's against the law in any of the other states Lanchester might have gone to.

So, you see, Lanchester's excuse about being ignorant of the law didn't hold any water.

Ignorance of the law is never an excuse ... not in Florida and not with God.

As the passage above tells us, if we are ignorant of a sin we have committed, we will be lightly punished; on the other hand, if we knew the wrongness of our action, then our punishment will be harder and more harsh.

There is nothing in this text or anywhere else in Scripture which says those who break God's commands in ignorance are going to get off scot-free.

Assuming I believe he acted in ignorance, Lanchester is still facing the possibility of some serious jail time, and assuming we are sinners who intentionally and unintentionally have transgressed God's Law, we can be sure a punishment awaits us, which is far more harsh than the worst of earthly jails.

Truly, there is no excuse or explanation that can get us off. The only thing which can procure our rescue from punishment is if someone were to take our place. The Someone who took our sins and paid the price for our salvation is Jesus Christ, God's only Son.

Throughout His entire life, without a slip or stumble, Jesus lived for us. He fulfilled the laws we had broken; He resisted the temptations which had done us in, and He carried our sins to the cross where He died our death.

Now, because of the work which Jesus alone could do, those who have Spirit-given faith are set free.

We are free not because of any excuse; we are free because all who believe on Jesus will not perish, but be given everlasting life. As Scripture says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23).

THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, I give thanks Jesus has won my release and brought about my rescue from eternal damnation. May my life reflect my gratitude so others might know the wonders of Your love. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

FW: ORDINATION BUDGET for Simon Peter Waako

My friend in Uganda, Simon Peter Waako,  Is working on his ordination plans set for June.  The culture is quite different in Uganda and so instead of the church supporting the ordination celebration and taking care of paying for things, he has to pay for all of it, and it is all expected.  Below is a budgeted list of items that are expected at his ordination.

I don't expect anyone to give toward this endeavor as, to us, this seems like things that are either unnecessary or should be taken care of by the congregation, but that is the culture and way of doing things there in Uganda.  If you feel moved and compelled to do so, please reply.

Peace be with you all!
