ST. JOHN'S MISSION STATEMENT
As the body of Christ, we strive to make disciples of all, focusing on the next generation, through growing...

UP in God's Word and Sacrament
OUT into the community by caring for physical and spiritual need
TOGETHER in fellowship to build lasting relationships in Christ

Memorize it!  Get used to it!  Live it!  It is YOUR mission statement as a member of St. John's Lutheran Church!!!

DEVOTION: For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.  Titus 3:3-7

When I was a kid, I used to get really annoyed when one of my aunts or uncles would come up to me and say something like, "Wow, you are so tall.  How did you grow up so fast?"  To me, as a kid, I wasn't growing fast enough.  I wanted to be a grown up.  Now, as an adult, what I wouldn't give to be a kid again.

It's all about perspective isn't it?  It's all about how you see things at a certain time and place.  As a Christian our perspective is a whole lot different than it would be as a non-Christian.  You see things from God's perspective.  His will is always on your mind.  You may not always do His will, and because of your human nature will still rebel from time to time, but you know His will and you want to do it.

We have the perspective of heirs to eternal life.  We are not simply living for the next fix, the next time we can fill our bellies, or the next thing to make us feel good.  We are living for eternity.  We are living with the purpose to love God and our neighbors because He first loved us and gave Himself up for us.

We have a heavenly perspective as we set our minds on things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.  We are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness!

If you have been too earthly lately, I urge you to repent and change your perspective.  Know that Christ has forgiven you 100%!  There is nothing left for you to do to earn Christ's love or to keep yourself in His love!  Just live in it!  Have joy in it!  Know that it is yours forever!  And have peace in it!

Let us pray: Lord change my perspective so it is yours!  Amen.
