Missouri Missions Highlights: Kansas City Oromo Outreach

The Kansas City Oromo Outreach is establishing a worship community of Oromo immigrants (a tribal group primarily from Ethiopia) at Christ Lutheran Church in Platte Woods, Mo. Recently more than 60 Oromo gathered for an afternoon of worship, singing, and a meal.  Read more . . .


LESA Poets Shine at 7GP Poetry Event

Students from seven LESA-member schools were invited to read their winning poems on April 13, during The 7th Grade Poetry Foundation's 2016 "Poetry on Our Terms" event at the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park.  Read more . . .


The St. Louis-based Lutheran Elementary School Association (LESA) raised a total of $424,000 for Lutheran elementary schools during its 12th Annual "A Night for Kids," Dinner-Auction, held April 2, at the Orlando Gardens South. Donations to the event were matched 2:1 by Lutheran Foundation of St. Louis.

KMOX's Mark Reardon co-hosted the evening, which included the presentation of LESA's 2016 Heritage Award to William "Bill" Bunte for creating a legacy for children enrolled in Lutheran schools in the St. Louis area.

"You always look at the successes," said Mr. Bunte, a retired owner and co-founder of Crawford, Bunte & Brammeier Traffic & Transportation Engineers in Creve Coeur. "LESA and our member schools have been very successful in reaching out to families and children in our communities. It's satisfying to be a part of that." Read more . . .


Anniversary Recognitions

The Missouri District recognizes full-time professional church workers who are presently serving in Missouri District congregations and schools for total years of service in LC-MS entities. Congregations and administrators were asked to submit the names of workers who reached anniversary years between September 1, 2015, and August 31, 2016.

Stair Climb Team Raises $3,800 for American Lung Association

The Stair Climb Team of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis raised $3,800 and placed second for fastest team time at the annual "Fight For Air Climb" held April 2 at the Met Square building downtown.

More than 1,500 climbers on 150 teams climbed 40 floors of stairs in Met Square, the tallest building in St. Louis, to raise money for the American Lung Association (ALA) and its research efforts.

The Seminary's team was ranked in the top 10 for donations raised and number of team members with 22. Seminary team member Melodie Bostic was ranked 21st among ALA fundraisers. Two other team members, Jeanne Anderson and Maureen Campise, also were ranked in the top 50 fundraisers.  Read more . . .

Specific Ministry Pastor (SMP) Program Students Celebrate First Calls
Students will serve in Florida, California, Texas and Wisconsin

Four students in the Specific Ministry Pastor (SMP) program at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis recently celebrated the assignment of their first calls. The students began the SMP program in spring 2014. They were on campus for their second Residential Seminar, on the Lutheran Confessions, the week of April 4-8.

Andrew Gomez – Memorial Lutheran Chapel for the Deaf, Fremont, Calif.

Keith Hills – Faith Lutheran Church, Sweetwater, Texas

Chad Kogutkiewicz – Hales Corner Lutheran Church, Hales Corner, Wis.

A fifth member of this cohort, Brent Schian, is set to receive his call in the next year after completing his vicarage requirements.   Read more . . .

The purpose of the conferences will be to encourage, equip and connect volunteers in our congregations through presentations, partnerships and networking. Elder's Training Conference

Join us down at the Lake for the 2016 Elders Retreat at Heit's Point, May 13-14, 2016.
The retreat with the theme "Pastors & Elders as Partners" is designed to strengthen the bond between pastors and elders through Bible study, presentations and discussions.
