"His Steadfast Love Endures Forever" A Psalm for giving thanks.
100 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
2 Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!
3 Know that the Lord, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;[a]
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!
5 For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.
What does a joyful noise sound like? Is it yelling and cheering? Is it melodic praise? Is it a "yippee" or a "Hallelujah"? Or is it something different?
People express joy in all sorts of different ways. At times it may even sound like a sigh of relief or a gasp of air when we are in dire straits. It may look like a person down on their knees in thanksgiving after being given a much needed gift from God.
Whatever it looks like, there is one place you are sure to find people making joyful noises to the Lord. You will definitely see this in worship at St. John's. It may not always sound like the most melodic or harmonic noise in the world, but it is still joyful. It is joyful, because we are a joyful people. We are joyful, because the Lord is our God, He loves us, forgives us, and gives us eternal life. We are joyful, because, even though we are sinful human beings and each of us is a flawed sinner, we have been made holy by the precious blood of Jesus!
Are you missing that joy? Has your life been stale? Is your life void of the joy of Christ? Do you long for that joy again? Then, maybe it's time for you to get back into worship, or if you are already in worship, repent of your sin, release all of those outside influences, and surrender your heart to the Lord in worship so that the Holy Spirit may give you the joy you need!
Let us pray: Lord, thank you for filling me with joy despite living in this world of sadness. Help me to live in that joy so that others may have the joy they need as well as they see it, hear it, and experience it from me. Amen.
