DEVOTION: Revelation 14:6-7  English Standard Version (ESV)

Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead, with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people. And he said with a loud voice, "Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water."

An eternal Gospel, what a wonderful thing!  It is an eternal good news.  It never gets old!  It never runs out!  The good news is that Jesus, God's Son, left heaven and came to earth to fulfill all righteousness on our behalf!  He suffered all the consequences of sin for our sake. He was forsaken by the Father on our behalf.  He died the death on the cross that we deserve.  He was put in a borrowed tomb. There he laid for a short time.  Then he ROSE FROM THE DEAD!  Christ is risen!  He is risen indeed!  Alleluia!

Instead of looking for something new, something different, something to fit your fancy; why not look to that old rugged cross?  Why not look to the eternal Gospel that is, was, and always will be the same!  Look to Jesus the author and perfecter of your faith!  Look to what He did on the cross.

It does you no good to look for the newest and most exciting preacher if he isn't preaching the Gospel. A new church won't help, even if the people there are all wonderful, and the building is magnificent; if the eternal Gospel isn't proclaimed.  You will just be more entertained and be further from salvation.

We are one week away from the 500th anniversary of the Reformation!  We will celebrate it with a festival worship and a wonderful luncheon and fun afterward.  I'm excited.  Yet, the only real reason we are going to celebrate is because of the eternal Gospel that we have!  That is why we celebrate!  That is why we gather every Sunday!  That is why we keep on keeping on!  If it wasn't for the good news of Jesus and his death and resurrection there would be no reason to be St. John's Lutheran Church.  We are a church because of the Gospel and we will continue to be the church wherever the Gospel is preached and the Sacraments are rightly given to the people!  BE PROUD OF YOUR CHURCH, BECAUSE YOU ARE PROUD OF THE GOSPEL!

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the eternal Gospel that will be proclaimed until and even after the day you return.  Amen.

We are in need of nominations for the elections that will take place on Sunday, November 19.  Below is what we need:

Board of elders- 3 men of good standing in the church who are active: main duties include, worship and communion assistance, member care, developing of budget for salary and benefits for staff.  They usually meet on the second Sunday of each month at noon. (Dave Winter is timed out and two of our other elders have resigned this year.)

Board of trustees- 3 people- main duties include taking care of St. John's property and approving budget for insurance and maintenance.  They meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 7pm and have several work days (usually on Saturday morning) throughout the year.  (Teresa Scott and Gary Hoelscher are both timed out and Scott Heitgerd has transferred to Immanuel, Wentzville)

Board of education- 2 people needed- Main duties include planning, preparation and carrying out of Sunday school program, VBS, and other education programs.  They usually meet on an as needed basis.  (Naomi Johnson is unable to continue due to work and family responsibilities and Lisa Rausch's first term is up)  We are in desperate need of a couple people who have the time and energy available to commit to this board.

Secretary-  This is not the same as our office administrator, Terry;  This person is responsible for taking minutes at voter's and council meetings, and for preparing agendas for the same.  This person can also be a signer on checks and other official documents.  (Patty Sweet has decided to go to a different church)

If you would like to nominate someone, including yourself, or have possible suggestions, please reply to this email, or call me at 636-359-1061
