DEVOTION:   Numbers 20:6-12  (NIV)
Moses and Aaron went from the assembly to the entrance to the tent of meeting and fell facedown, and the glory of the Lord appeared to them. The Lord said to Moses, "Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water. You will bring water out of the rock for the community so they and their livestock can drink."
So Moses took the staff from the Lord's presence, just as he commanded him. 10 He and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them, "Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?" 11 Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank.
12 But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them."

It seems like such a little thing.  God told Moses to speak to the rock and instead Moses struck the rock.  Doesn't really seem like a big enough reason for God to keep Moses and Aaron and the rest of their generation from entering the Promised Land.  It was more than that though.  Look at what Moses says,  "Listen you rebels, must WE bring you water out of this rock?  Moses claimed the honor for himself and Aaron instead of giving all the honor to God.  He assumed the power when it wasn't his.

Reminds me of a different verse, "be perfect therefore as your heavenly Father is perfect."   We can't enter the "Promised Land", HEAVEN, unless we are perfect.  Even one little slip up, one little sin, One little mistake separates us from the Lord.

While Moses had done what seemed to be harmless and even something done in righteous anger, it wasn't what the Lord commanded.  Even when we do the little things wrong.  Even when we skip worship on a Sunday, or we tell a little white lie to our spouse, or we are lazy when we need to get things done, or we don't treat our bodies as we should, or........  the list goes on and on, it isn't what the Lord commanded.  He demands perfection.

This is why one sinless man and one act of perfect selfless righteousness is the only thing that will gain us entry into that Promised Land and get us back into a perfect relationship with the Father.

Rejoice today that even though you haven't been, aren't, and never will be perfect, your Lord and Savior Jesus was, is, and always will be perfect for you.  He lives in you.  When the Father looks at you he doesn't see you in all your sinful mess.  He sees Jesus in all His sinless glory!

Prayer:  Lord God, I'm sorry that I have been imperfect in every way.  Thank you for sending your Son to be perfect for me.  Amen.

A NEW ST JOHN'S YELLOW PAGES TO BE PUT TOGETHER

We are attempting to collect your business cards and print them in the monthly newsletter as advertising.  It will be free to member businesses.  Many times members call and ask if there are members in the congregation that are in a certain business or profession.  People would rather do business with a church family member if possible.  Bring your cards to the church office asap as we will start this with the March newsletter.
