DEVOTION: On the last and greatest day o the feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice. "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within Him." By this He meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. John 7:37-38
What does it mean to be Spiritually "thirsty" as Jesus says here in this passage? We, who have ready access to water wherever we go don't quite understand this as much as they would have back then. You couldn't just go to the kitchen and turn on the faucet. It would take a lot of work to go to the good water source to get a drink. You an imagine how thirsty they may have gotten and how often they would have been truly thirsty.
Now imagine that in a spiritual way. The difference is that people often keep themselves from the living water? Why would you do that? Imagine someone saying, I can live without water for a couple weeks. I'll take my chances and wait for a while to go to the spring and fill up. Hopefully it won't be too dry. How silly is that? The spring of living water is right there, right in front of them. It is in God's Word right there for them to hear. It is right there at the altar in Christ's body and blood in the Lord's Supper.
These kind of people need loving brothers and sisters in Christ to remind them of this truth. They need to be brought back to the water of life so that they may live!
Others have forgotten how to get to the spring. It has been so long since they were there that they lost their way. They need someone to show them the way to Jesus again.
Or people just don't know where to find that spiritual water. They haven't heard Jesus' invitation that he gives to all who are thirsty to come and drink from His springs of living water and never be thirsty again. They need someone to introduce them to Jesus and show them how much Jesus loves them and wants them to drink rom those springs of living water.
This is what God has given you to do! When the woman at the well was forgiven by Jesus and given the streams of living water, she immediately went to the people in town and proclaimed, "Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did."
That's all you have to do. Proclaim and bring. Show and tell. Share and love! That's your job, your responsibility, your joy as a Christian. DO IT!
Let us pray: Lord God, You are the way, truth, and life. You invite us to come to you when we are thirsty. Help us to come to you daily for the living water that wells up all the way to eternal life. Amen.

YESTERDAY'S QUIZ:
What does Jesus mean when He says, "Take up your cross and follow me"? The cross meant certain death, so Jesus was actually telling the disciples and anyone who would follow him that they would have to be willing to follow him all the way to death.
