DEVOTION:  "For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you-- that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each others, faith, both yours and mine."  Romans 1:11-12

Why church?  Why do we get together on weekends?  Why do we spend money on things like a DCE or a pastor?  Why do we have this fellowship called St. John's Lutheran Church?  Why should you care about your church?

Some of you may be seriously asking these questions and many others like it.  Others may have been neglecting worship and the fellowship of the church for one reason or another, maybe because you just don't see the reason for it.

Paul wrote the above note to his friends, his brothers and sisters in Christ in Rome, because he missed them.  He missed being able to share the love of Christ.  He missed their fellowship.  He missed their encouragement and being able to encourage them in person.

Maybe you are missing the same things.  Maybe you are wondering what this church thing is all about.  Maybe you are disgruntled with the church and need a reason to come back.

This weekend is a perfect opportunity to get back into it!!  It is Rally Day, a new beginning of sorts.  A lot of things are happening!!

1.  The Fall Session of Sunday school starts.  Our teachers are working hard to make Sunday school an exciting and fun place to be.  GET YOUR KIDS TO SUNDAY SCHOOL!  We are also starting a study on Islam (Muslims) this Sunday.

2. Commitments Cards are due!!  Please fill them out with what you have decided in your heart to give, not under compulsion but with joy, and bring them to church this weekend!

3. OUR NEW CHOIR IS GOING TO SING IN BOTH SERVICES!!  I'm looking forward to hearing them and I know you are too!

4. THE PICNIC IS THIS SUNDAY!!  We will be out at Mim Dunn's house on Sunday beginning at noon!  her address is 17488 Hickory Lick Rd.  If you want to get in or on the water make sure you bring your lifejackets.  We want everyone to be safe.

I know that I miss A LOT of you when you are gone, especially if you have been gone for a long time.

We NEED church just like Paul did.  I want to strongly urge you be at worship and Sunday school this weekend!!  You won't regret it, and you will be blessed!!

Prayer:  Lord God, thank you for the church.  Even though it is made up of imperfect people, you make us perfect through your Son.  Help us to see each other as your children and brothers and sisters in Christ.  Amen.

PRAYERS FOR OUR SERVICEMEN
I have been compiling a list of servicemen who are members of St John's so that we can pray for them.  Below is a list of them and where they are currently stationed.  Please note that their stationing changes quickly, so this may not even be up to date, but it is the last known whereabouts that I have of these guys.

Danny Dreyer-  Army- 2nd Lieutenant- Ranger, GERMANY

Sam Hargrove- Army- 2 Lieutenant- Ft Rucker, Alabama, will be going through helicopter flight school and other training

David Mincemeyer- Army- Army Specialist- Ft. Carson, CO

Jon Rahn- Navy- Hawaii, not sure of his rank at this time

David Tate- Air Force- 2nd Lieutenant- Jacksonville, Florida

Alex Walters- Navy- E4- Guam

Ryan Woolf- Air Force- Airman 1st Class- Buckley Air Force Base, near Denver, CO

If there are more out there that I just don't know about, please let me know, and I will include him/her on the list.

Also, if you would like your family member or friend included in this list, please reply to this email with all the information!

Pray for these guys.  Some of these guys are in harm's way right now, others are training to put themselves in harm's way.  All of them have volunteered to serve and protect their country (which is you).
