prayer request from Sandy Robine

Prayer request from Sandy Robine...

For 9 year old Anna Stetzel who is having her 3rd heart surgery tomorrow, July 16th, at Cardinal Glennon Hospital.  She is a very loving, thoughtful and happy child who is loved so much by her Grandma Ann (Sandy Robine's friend of 63 years!) & PaPa Ron, her Mommy & Daddy (Mom, Kim, is a teacher at Kennerly grade school in Lindbergh School District), her younger sister, Gracie and her fairly new baby sister, Janie Rose and many other family members and friends.

Grandma Ann told me, this morning, that Anna received a huge envelope stuffed with handmade cards from kids and folks at the First Baptist Church of Arnold.  BTW, they only had ever met 1 person in all those cards!  Christians coming together to lift one awesome little girl up to God for yet another miracle of a successful surgery in her short life. The Stetzels have friends at Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood and Anna and Gracie have LOVED attending their VBS a couple of times now.  Please join all of us in praying for Anna and her surgeon, Dr. Huddleston and his entire surgical & recovery team too!

If any of you want to send any special message to Anna and her family, just send them along to me at snsrobine@centurytel.net and I will be happy to forward them along to Grandma Ann.

Thank you and God's peace on your day.
Sandy Robine

DEVOTION:  At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"  He called a little child and had him stand among them.  And he said:  "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.  Therefore whoever humble himself like this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 18:1-4

One of the greatest problems I have is humility.  What I mean by this is that I have a hard time putting others before myself.  Don't you?  Maybe that is why the Gospel reading is so hard for us to listen to when it says "Love your neighbor as yourself."  Easier said than done, right?

We are about to begin a Ministry Campaign this Wednesday to focus our attention, efforts and finances on children and youth.  This seems like a no brainer doesn't it?  Yet, when it comes to our finances we get awfully self focused don't we?  Ministry is wonderful and great until it gets between us and our checkbook or wallet.  Suddenly it becomes a little bit harder to justify things like a DCE, especially in an economy such as ours.

But Jesus calls us to something different in the passage above.  He shows us who and what is most important to Him.  What is important to Jesus is the faith of a little child.  What is important to Jesus is faith in Him for everyone.

My greatest fear for my children is not that they will get physically hurt or that they won't reach their full potential and be successful in life.  My greatest fear for my children is that they will somehow fall from faith or even worse, that because of my failure to act or to train them up in the way they should go in the faith, that they somehow get lost.  So it is my duty as a father and as a pastor to make sure that they and all of our children have every opportunity to grow in their faith as much as possible.

In one sentence that is the focus of our campaign this next month and a half. It is to make sure that the children of our congregation and our community have every opportunity and every tool they need to receive and grow in the faith that leads to eternal life!

Please take advantage of our meetings coming up the next three Wednesdays to learn all there is to know about our Ministry Campaign and what a DCE will mean to this congregation!

Let us pray:  Lord God, help us to humble ourselves to put the children and youth as first priority in our lives and in our church.  Amen.

PRAYERS FOR OUR SERVICEMEN
I have been compiling a list of servicemen who are members of St John's so that we can pray for them.  Below is a list of them and where they are currently stationed.  Please note that their stationing changes quickly, so this may not even be up to date, but it is the last known whereabouts that I have of these guys.

Danny Dreyer-  Army- 2nd Lieutenant- Ranger, GERMANY

Sam Hargrove- Army- 2 Lieutenant- Ft Rucker, Alabama, will be going through helicopter flight school and other training

David Mincemeyer- Army- Army Specialist- Ft. Carson, CO

Jon Rahn- Navy- Hawaii, not sure of his rank at this time

David Tate- Air Force- 2nd Lieutenant- Jacksonville, Florida

Alex Walters- Navy- E4- Guam

Ryan Woolf- Air Force- Airman 1st Class- Buckley Air Force Base, near Denver, CO

If there are more out there that I just don't know about, please let me know, and I will include him/her on the list.

Also, if you would like your family member or friend included in this list, please reply to this email with all the information!

Pray for these guys.  Some of these guys are in harm's way right now, others are training to put themselves in harm's way.  All of them have volunteered to serve and protect their country (which is you).
