DEVOTION: But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the Word. Acts 6:4
Sometimes a church, a family, or even an individual can get off track. We can get involved in all sorts of things we call "good", till we start spinning our wheels and getting nowhere. We are doing all sorts of good things that seem worthwhile, but are not exactly what God has called us to do.
The disciples had this trouble. Jesus had called them to "Go and make disciples by baptizing and teaching them", but now they were spending all their time "waiting on tables". Not that waiting on tables is bad, but God had called them to something different and it was being neglected.
God has called you and this church to something specific too. He has called each individual member of this church and the church as a whole to the ministry of the Word, especially to children and youth. He has given us the mind and the focus on this specific thing and we need to have a unity of focus on it to get it accomplished and to grow it. That is why God has put in our hearts and minds to call a DCE (Director of Christian Education), to help us to focus on this ministry and grow it into what God has planned and willed.
I urge you, throughout the month of August, to pray earnestly for this ministry and for God to give you a clear focus as to your part in it. What does he want you to do? And when he gives you that clear focus, do it!
Prayer: Lord God thank you for giving us this focus on ministry to children and youth. Help me to do my part in it. Amen.

THURSDAY'S QUIZ: What did Jeremiah see when he went down to the potter's house? "So I went down to the potter's house, and I saw him working at the wheel, but the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. Jeremiah 18:3-4 (Good job Dianne and Pam)
