DEVOTION: When one rules over men in righteousness, when he rules in the fear of God, he is like the light of morning at sunrise on a cloudless morning, like the brightness after rain that brings the grass from the earth. 2 Samuel 23:3-4
This was one of, in not the last thing that David said. He was dying and he wanted to impart some wisdom to his son. He had learned through many mistakes and heartache what it was like when he didn't rule in righteousness (Bathsheba). He saw what happened to Saul when Saul no longer feared the Lord and let the power get to his head. He didn't want that to happen to his son Solomon.
This isn't just good advice for a king, but it works in all of your relationships. When a father does his job in righteousness his family thrives. When a spouse loves his or her spouse in God's righteousness the marriage is wonderful. When a pastor leads a congregation in righteousness and when he fears the Lord, there is joy and peace. And when he doesn't....... well you know what happens.
I urge you today to pray for righteousness and the fear of the Lord in your life. Wherever God has placed you, whether you are a son, daughter, mother, father, worker, boss, grandparent, church member, mayor, or even president; walk humbly and love mercy, give grace, give God's love and forgiveness, and things will go well and God will be pleased!
Prayer: Lord God, bless me that I may live my life in righteousness and in the fear of you! Amen.

CALLING ALL BAKERS!!!
If you have never been involved in one of our church activities (and even if you have), here is a new challenge for you!! There will be a cake/dessert booth at the carnival on September 12! The carnival will be open from 11am until dusk! Donations of baked good and workers to man the booth will be needed!! Desserts needing refrigeration cannot be accepted. Work shifts will be for two hours beginning at 10am and will go till closing time. To eliminate many, many phone calls, a sign up sheet has been placed on the narthex where you can volunteer!!

For OUR DCE INTERN, KELSEY OVERBECK, that she has a safe trip back to MO after visiting a church in Houston this weekend.
For LIL WINTER as she has moved to DePaul Rehab hospital. She will be having a procedure done today or tomorrow and then maybe get to go home.
