DEVOTION: 1 Corinthians 1:3-9 English Standard Version (ESV)
3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 4 I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, 5 that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge— 6 even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you— 7 so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 8 who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
I know we just celebrated Thanksgiving, but have you thanked God lately for all of those Christians around you who strengthen your faith simply because of the grace God gave to him or her? Have you told those people that you have thanked him for them?
Our Lord indeed does put people in our lives to strengthen our faith and to be examples to us of what a person of faith should look like. That is why he put us in communities called churches and didn't leave us as individuals to flounder on our own. That is why he put twelve disciples together to be together as a family in Christ. That is why the first church gathered together daily to study the Scriptures, to have meals together, to care for each other's needs, and to pray for each other. We are meant by God to be in community, to be in church!
So I just want to say how thankful I am for you today. You are my friends, my fellow church members, and my brothers and sisters in Christ. I don't thank God enough for you, but today, because of His Word in my heart, I thank Him for you and all you have done for me and my family. I thank you for the good example of faith you have been to me. I thank you for caring for my needs and the needs of my family. I thank you for praying for me. I thank you for being my brothers and sisters in Christ. THANK YOU, GOD, FOR MY CHURCH FAMILY, AND THE FAITH YOU HAVE GIVEN TO THEM! AMEN.

VOTER'S MEETING RESULTS FROM LAST SUNDAY
- The voters nominated President Lee Hagan for district president and VP Ron Rall for another term.
- The voters voted to keep the same mission project, Rev.. Micah and Dorothy Glenn in North County, for 2018.
- Larry Schulze, Jim McRae, and Teresa Brockfeld all volunteered to be on the board of trustees! Thank you to these three volunteers!
- We are still in need of two board members for the board of education, and four members for the board of elders.
- The voters approved the budget for 2018. Thanks to Alan Hofeldt for putting it together.
- Since we continuously have trouble filling our boards and committees and since things could be done a whole lot better and more efficiently with a different structure, the voters approved the appointing of a task force to study changes to our governance structure so that we can tap into all the unused potential, so that people who want to do good in the congregation don't have to commit to boards and committees for 9 years, and so that the work of the church can be disbursed among those who actually want to do it! PRAISE THE LORD!!
- The voters approved changing the overflow accordion door to a permanent wall with doors and windows in it to convert the overflow to a cry room.
- The voter's also approved a budget of $450,000 for our building project so that we can move forward with hiring an architect.
As you can see, a lot is getting done in and around St. John's. It may be slow going at times, but God is definitely moving! I'm excited to see what God has in store for 2018!! It's gonna be a great year watching A LOT of people come to Christ and become members of St. John's! If you'd like to volunteer for our task force to look into structure changes, please reply to this email. Please look for lots of wonderful stuff to be happening in the near future, and PRAY, PRAY, PRAY for St. John's that we can grow in making disciples in, out and together!!
