Jonas's Updates
Tuesday, March 13
Posted 1 day agoThank you to everyone who helped to make the Luke Minx benefit concert for Jonas such a success! There were over 150 people that attended and they raised over $3000! Thank you to Luke Minx (and the whole Minx family), Joshua Aaron Mack, Living Stones Community Church, Rachel Holte with Salt and Light photography, the Lake Lotawana Optimists Club (who's donation was a substancial part of the money raised) and to our dear Fight the Fight friends, Shawn and Lynda James and Amy Brockelmeyer.
We were very worried that Jonas was not feeling up to attending, and he was pretty sure he couldn't even sit through an hour and half program --so we showed up only for the last 30 minutes. Luke put on wonderful performance, and all the adreneline had an uplifting affect on Jonas. Jonas clapped along with the music, socialized with friends, posed for pictures, signed autographs, and even took a turn at the microphone to thank everyone. I think everyone had a great time. We played Luke's CD all the way home singing HOLD ON over and over again. Thank you again, to Luke!!! What a genuine friend and talent. We look forward to hearing great things about you in the future! Keep us in the loop! = )
We were delighted to see so many of our Lake Lotawana family of friends there, several of my old piano students and old classmates of Jonas': The Mooreheads, Kim Black, Brad and Vicki Wood, Katie and Evan Roberts, Merle Bowers, Pauline and Natalie Rice, Gwen and Jaycee Davidson, Alex Krause, Emmie Ford and Kelsey Ellis, (and other friends not from LL- Dana and Rich, Terry, Alex, Dawson.)just to name a few. We don't usually get to see you all too much anymore, but we were so grateful to have you all turn out to show your love and support for Jonas! Thank you. Your kindness means so much to our whole family.
We kept the rest of the weekend low key, happy that all the excitement did not send him to the hospital. Lol. Today, however, Jonas went in for a regularly scheduled out-patient dose of chemo. When his lab results came back they showed that his red blood cell count was low so we had to stay the rest of the afternoon for a blood transfusion.
While we were at the hospital I got a phone call a woman named Jane Cavanaugh. She called to tell me about the Jake Cavanaugh Foundation named after her son who had Osteosarcoma, a similar condition to Ewings sarcoma (which is what Jonas has). Jake, a beautiful young man of 21, passed away about a year ago after battling his cancer for about 6 years. Jake and his mother also spent several months living down at MD Anderson (like we did) and even had several of the same doctors there that Jonas did. This Saturday the foundation is holding thier annual fundraiser, a St. Patrick's Day party at the Elk's Lodge in Blue Springs. They have chosen Jonas to be the beneficiary of this fundraiser. There will be food and drinks, live Irish music and an Irish dancing troupe will perform, along with a raffle and silent auction. We look forward to going - health permitting- to meet the Cavanaughs and to help celebrate Jake's life. We would love for you to join us! I will post a picture of the flyer in the photo gallery here. You can learn more about him and his foundation at http://www.jakecavanaugh.com/
Once again, I will have to catch up on more info tomorrow. I'm out of time.Send a message
