After that whole generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation grew up, who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel. Judges 2:10
It's the parent's fault. That's all I can say. They didn't teach their children to know the Lord. They didn't make a discipline out of attending God's house for worship. They didn't pray regularly. They didn't talk about God when they sat down to eat, when they got up, when they walked on the road, or when they went to bed. That's what happened.
I hate it when parents decide to let their children make their own decision when it comes to God, Religion, or faith. Do you let them make their own decision when it comes to brushing their teeth, going to grandma's house, cleaning up their room, or eating their vegetables. Heck no! So why would you let them make up their own minds with something of so very much more importance. Excuse my French, but that's just plain stupid and irresponsible.
A high school classmate of mine died yesterday while on vacation in California trying to rescue his son. His son had slipped on a rock and fell into the ocean. He jumped in and actually was able to push his boy to safety, but just as he was trying to get out himself a huge wave came and pulled him back into the ocean. He drowned. He is in heaven now! Why? Because his parents introduced him to the Lord and made sure that he knew the Lord!! he grew up knowing Jesus as Savior!
What if his parents had decided to let him make up his own mind and never talked to him about Jesus? What if they had never taken him to the waters of Holy Baptism? What if it is was left up to him?
To be sure there are thousands of people who came to faith without their parents help. There are millions who never heard a word about their Savior from the people who raised them BUT WHY WOULD YOU, WHO KNOW THE LORD, TAKE THAT CHANCE, when you know that the child's eternal life is at stake?
I'm speaking to parents today when I say, MAKE SURE YOUR CHILDREN KNOW THE LORD! If you do one good thing in your life, make it this one! Bring them to church! Bring them to Sunday school. Go to Sunday school yourself so that they see, know, and understand how important knowing the Lord is to you! KNOW THE LORD YOURSELF TOO! You won't be disappointed!
I'm so thankful that I was born to parents who made sure that I knew the Lord, that they made me go to worship even when I didn't want to go. That they spent time with me memorizing the Scripture, that they sent me to Lutheran school, and that they continue to care deeply about my spiritual life!
My prayer is that your kids have parents like mine!
Prayer: Lord God, help parent to make good decisions in raising their kids to know you. Amen.

"One Man Must Die"
March 16, 2015
"But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, 'You know nothing at all. Nor do you understand that it is better for you that one man should die for the people, not that the whole nation should perish.' ... So from that day on they made plans to put Him to death" (John 11:49-50, 53).
Read John 11:45-57.
In Lazarus' resurrection on the fourth day, Jesus performed an undeniable miracle greater and more widely known than healing a man born blind. Since this miracle took place near Jerusalem word spread quickly, which the Jewish leaders found to be particularly troubling. But they never stopped to ask if they might be wrong, if Jesus might possibly be the Christ.
They only knew many people were seeing Lazarus and believing in Jesus. Gathering their Council together, they searched for some kind of answer-something they could do to stop the madness.
Finally, the high priest broke through it all. He alone seemed to realize there was only one solution: Jesus must die. If Jesus continued living, the entire nation would be destroyed. And from that moment on, the Jewish leaders sought Jesus' death.
But God had long ago reached that same decision. In fact, John tells us that Caiaphas did not say this on his own, but the Holy Spirit inspired him to say it. It was the truth. If Jesus would not die on the cross for the sins of the world, then the entire Jewish nation would be destroyed, and with it you and me and all people. If this one man died, then all of us could live.
THE PRAYER: Lord Jesus, what amazing humility You showed in being willing to be put to death to save me and all people. Give Your Church true faith and gratitude that we may tell Your story to all people. Amen.

Thursday, March 12, 2015
12 At that time Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord gave the Amorites over to the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel,
"Sun, stand still at Gibeon,
and moon, in the Valley of Aijalon."
13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stopped,
until the nation took vengeance on their enemies.
Is this not written in the Book of Jashar? The sun stopped in the midst of heaven and did not hurry to set for about a whole day. 14 There has been no day like it before or since, when the Lord heeded the voice of a man, for the Lord fought for Israel.
Those who refuse to believe the Scriptures or to believe in Christ often use this passage and say that it is scientifically impossible for this to happen. The world would be destroyed. Everything would go crazy. It just wouldn't work.
I don't have a problem with it at all! God can do anything. He is the one who keeps the earth spinning. If he wants to stop it and yet keep the world alive, HE CAN DO IT! If he wants to save you or your loved one from cancer HE CAN DO IT! If he wants to bring your loved one to faith HE CAN DO IT! If he wants to love you in spite of your sinfulness HE CAN DO IT! If we wants to give you the miracle of bbirth when all the doctors said it as impossible, HE CAN DO IT!
And if he wants to send his son Jesus to earth to be born of a virgin, suffer, die, and rise from the dead so that we can live forever, HE CAN DO IT!!
Don't underestimate the power of God. HE IS GOD AFTER ALL!!!!!
Prayer: Lord, you can make the sun stand still. You can form a child in a mother's womb. You can heal when no one else can. And you can bring life from death by raising your Son from the dead! THANK YOU FOR BEING MY GOD! Amen.

DEVOTION: Joshua 7:10-15
10 The Lord said to Joshua, "Get up! Why have you fallen on your face? 11 Israel has sinned; they have transgressed my covenant that I commanded them; they have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen and lied and put them among their own belongings. 12 Therefore the people of Israel cannot stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become devoted for destruction.[a] I will be with you no more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you. 13 Get up! Consecrate the people and say, 'Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow; for thus says the Lord, God of Israel, "There are devoted things in your midst, O Israel. You cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the devoted things from among you."
You ever wonder why you have that feeling in the pit of your stomach when you know that you've done something wrong and it just hasn't come out in the open yet? Ever thought about why you feel "cursed" when things seem to constantly be going wrong in your life? Ever wished you could restore a broken relationship, but you just don't have the guts to take the first step and ask for forgiveness, but then everything around you seems to remind you of that broken relationship?
There's sin in your life that you haven't dealt with, that's why! You haven't made amends with the person. You haven't confessed your sins to God and to the person against whom you sinned. You haven't taken the sin off your shoulders and laid it at the foot of the cross like you should.
In the story for today, some of the Israelites had taken golden statues and other artifacts out of the city of Jericho after God had specifically told them not to. Because they did this, God let the city of Ai beat them badly in battle. No longer were they the people who had just destroyed the famous city of Jericho, because the Lord let them suffer the consequence for their sin. And until that sin was dealt with it would continue to be that way.
Guilt is a horrible thing. Until you deal with it, it will plague you. You will become weak under its power. You won't enjoy life as much as you should, and you won't have that complete peace that passes all understanding.
I urge you to deal with you sin! REPENT! Turn away from it and turn to God. Let the Lord God deal with it according to his will. Give it up to Him daily! You are never going to be completely rid of sin all together, but God will cleanse your heart of the guilt of it, and give you opportunity to praise and honor him in your confession, repentance, and forgiveness.
Let us pray: Lord God, thank you for giving me opportunities daily to get rid of my guilt and to live in peace with you! Help me to use those opportunities and to grow in your grace daily. Amen.
