DEVOTION:  Joshua 7:10-15
10 The Lord said to Joshua, "Get up! Why have you fallen on your face? 11 Israel has sinned; they have transgressed my covenant that I commanded them; they have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen and lied and put them among their own belongings. 12 Therefore the people of Israel cannot stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become devoted for destruction.[a] I will be with you no more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you. 13 Get up! Consecrate the people and say, 'Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow; for thus says the Lord, God of Israel, "There are devoted things in your midst, O Israel. You cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the devoted things from among you."

You ever wonder why you have that feeling in the pit of your stomach when you know that you've done something wrong and it just hasn't come out in the open yet?  Ever thought about why you feel "cursed" when things seem to constantly be going wrong in your life?  Ever wished you could restore a broken relationship, but you just don't have the guts to take the first step and ask for forgiveness, but then everything around you seems to remind you of that broken relationship?

There's sin in your life that you haven't dealt with, that's why!  You haven't made amends with the person.  You haven't confessed your sins to God and to the person against whom you sinned.  You haven't taken the sin off your shoulders and laid it at the foot of the cross like you should.

In the story for today, some of the Israelites had taken golden statues and other artifacts out of the city of Jericho after God had specifically told them not to.  Because they did this, God let the city of Ai beat them badly in battle.  No longer were they the people who had just destroyed the famous city of Jericho, because the Lord let them suffer the consequence for their sin.  And until that sin was dealt with it would continue to be that way.

Guilt is a horrible thing.  Until you deal with it, it will plague you.  You will become weak under its power.  You won't enjoy life as much as you should, and you won't have that complete peace that passes all understanding.

I urge you to deal with you sin!  REPENT!  Turn away from it and turn to God.  Let the Lord God deal with it according to his will.  Give it up to Him daily!  You are never going to be completely rid of sin all together, but God will cleanse your heart of the guilt of it, and give you opportunity to praise and honor him in your confession, repentance, and forgiveness.

Let us pray:  Lord God, thank you for giving me opportunities daily to get rid of my guilt and to live in peace with you!  Help me to use those opportunities and to grow in your grace daily.  Amen.
