DEVOTION:  2 Timothy 3:14-4:5  (ESV)
14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom[a] you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God[b] may be complete, equipped for every good work.

I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound[c] teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

It used to be that most people liked to hear the TRUTH, the whole TRUTH, and nothing but the TRUTH; but it doesn't seem as though that is the case anymore.  The truth is that it hasn't necessarily been the way it is for a very long time.  Even back in Paul's day, as he is writing to Timothy, there were people who "will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths."

What about you?  Do you balk at every time someone tries to give you advice, or even worse, when someone tells you that you are dong something wrong, that you are a SINNER?

Oh no, I used that word "sinner".   Did you cringe when you saw that word?  Did you turn off your ears?  Are you looking for a different devotion to read, someone who tell you that you are a good person, that everything is fine, and that God will let you into heaven because you are good enough?

The trouble is that those things are NOT the truth!  If you want to hear or read the truth, you will hear it from me and you will read it in these devotions.   If you want to hear something that might make you feel good, but is far from the truth go somewhere else.

The truth is that you and I, and every human being, is a sinner.  We would have been doomed to eternal death and destruction if it had not been for the Lord God having mercy on us and sending His one and only Son, Jesus to live a perfect life, suffer, die, and rise again.  Jesus took our place on the cross, because God, in His infinite wisdom, knew that we couldn't pay the price ourselves.

Live in that truth!  Live in that peace!  Live in that TRUE JOY today!  Stop only listening to people and to preachers who will tell you what you want to hear.  Listen to people who will tell you the truth even when it's not nice, even when you don't want to hear it.

You're a sinner and you're saved by grace through faith!  That's the TRUTH!

Prayer: Lord, bless us with preachers and teachers who will tell us the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.  Amen.
