3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,[a] 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant,[b] being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Read the above passage, and then just think, just for a second, about our current presidential race. It doesn't take long to understand that the world as we know it and how we should be as Christians, are directly opposed to each other.
I'm not saying ambition is bad. Selfish ambition is. I'm not saying that trying to be a leader is bad. Conceit is!
If you want to be a Christian leader or want to get ahead in God's kingdom, God's economy, here's what you need:
1. Have the same attitude and mind as Christ.
2. Take on the nature of a servant.
3. Humble yourself to the point of death.
4. Look to the interests of others and not your own.
5. Do NOTHING out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.
6. Count others as more significant than you are.
This is also, believe it or not, how to make disciples and win others for Christ. Simply telling them about Jesus without showing them Jesus with your own life, will get you nowhere. For example, my dad has only told me he loves me once in my life, but I know he loves me by how he acts toward me. More importantly, I know he loves the Lord by how he acts toward him. He goes to worship! He sings in choir. He serves with the gifts God has given him. He cares for the needs of others.
So.... get off your high horse and stop thinking that the world revolves around you. The earth revolves around the sun. God created the sun! God sent His Son Jesus for the world. So, if the world revolves around anyone, it revolves around Jesus! Look to Jesus for your attitude, your salvation, and your life!
Prayer: Lord, knock us off our high horse! Make us humble so You may be exalted. Amen.
