DEVOTION:
Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them to him saying, "Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it." Luke 18:15-17
This past Sunday was the final Sunday for bringing our commitments to the Lord for our ministry growth campaign. We, as a congregation, have committed $140,000 to the cause of calling a director of Christian education DCE, or getting a DCE intern from one of our Concordia Universities. It was quite a long process, but we are finally here.
Now the hard work begins. We have to make good on our commitment. Now we have to start the paperwork and interview process. Now we have to prepare ourselves for what it will mean to have a DCE at our church! How exciting is that?
We are doing this for many reasons, but one of the reasons is to help our parents grow our kids in their relationships with the Lord. I have never been a big fan of Hilary Clinton, but one thing she said a long time ago rings true in my ears, especially as I have my own two children. It does take a village, or in this case, a whole congregation to raise a child. We are here to help and support each other. We are here to bear one another's burdens. We are here to build each other up and care for each other. We are here to bring the children to Jesus that He might touch them.
If you haven't made your commitment yet, maybe you were waiting to see what happened with it, or maybe you just didn't think if it was worth it, know that God is going to do His will in this! He wants all of the children He has created to come to Him! He wants to touch them with His love, mercy, and grace! He wants all of us to bring them to Him! You will be blessed in your giving and in your commitment!
All praise and honor be to God!!
Let us pray: Lord God, help me now to keep my commitment. Help me to care for the children of my congregation and community. Help me to bring the children to you that you might touch them and bless them forever. Amen.

I especially want to thank, Rich Boeger, Allan Dreyer, Jennifer Figura, and Lani Heitgerd for being on the committee and helping to bring this thing to fruition. I also wanted to thank Doug Walters and Alan Hofeldt who spent countless hours working on the financial part of it and seeing this thing through from the very beginning. There are tons of others who participated in focus groups, committees, and working with finances.

It has truly been and will continue to be a whole congregation effort. Thank you all!!
OUR TOTAL COMMITMENTS FOR THE RE-INVESTING in ETERNITY MINISTRY GROWTH CAMPAIGN up to this point is approximately $140,000!
This is a bit short of us being able to call a DCE from the field, but is more than enough for us to get an intern from one of our Concordia Universities. If you are still contemplating giving to this very worthy cause, please let us know and then make your decision and get your commitment card in. We will hopefully begin the paperwork and the process within the next month or two to have our intern by this coming Summer.

PRAYERS FOR OUR SERVICEMEN
I have been compiling a list of servicemen who are members of St John's so that we can pray for them. Below is a list of them and where they are currently stationed. Please note that their stationing changes quickly, so this may not even be up to date, but it is the last known whereabouts that I have of these guys.
Danny Dreyer- Army- 2nd Lieutenant- Ranger, GERMANY
Sam Hargrove- Army- 2 Lieutenant- Ft Rucker, Alabama, will be going through helicopter flight school and other training
David Mincemeyer- Army- Army Specialist- Ft. Carson, CO
Jon Rahn- Navy- Hawaii, not sure of his rank at this time
David Tate- Air Force- 2nd Lieutenant- Jacksonville, Florida
Alex Walters- Navy- E4- Guam
Ryan Woolf- Air Force- Airman 1st Class- Buckley Air Force Base, near Denver, CO
If there are more out there that I just don't know about, please let me know, and I will include him/her on the list.
Also, if you would like your family member or friend included in this list, please reply to this email with all the information!
Pray for these guys. Some of these guys are in harm's way right now, others are training to put themselves in harm's way. All of them have volunteered to serve and protect their country (which is you).
