update on Libby Pailer

Libby's surgery is scheduled for tomorrow 3-15-12 first thing in the morning. It will be open heart surgery to repair or perhaps  replace the mitral valve and repair the tricusped valve.  Right now the blood is leaking backwards a lot every time her heart pumps and has enlarged one chamber of her heart quite a bit.  He said the surgery would last at least 5 hours and then she'll be in the ICU. If all goes well she'll stay in the hospital for 4-5 days after surgery. She should be back to normal activity 8 weeks after surgery which is an estimate of course.  Once she has healed she should feel a whole lot better than she has for a long time.  Maybe she'll even wait hand and foot on my dad (just the opposite as we all know ;-)

 

We were very impressed with the surgeon, he spent a lot of time explaining the procedure and we had a lesson in the anatomy of the heart.  

Right now mom is in room 4094 at Mercy Heart Hospital  (St. John's for all of you who know St. Louis) if you want to see or talk to her today. After she's out of surgery and the ICU we'll give you her new room number. We appreciate your love and concern.  Keep those prayers coming.
