DEVOTION: There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven...... Ecclesiastes 3:1-17

This is a very familiar verse and passage of Scripture.  Have you ever thought about what it means for you?  It means that there is a time for many good things to happen and a time for quite a few bad things to happen as well.  The good news is that God works His will through them both.

There is a time for strife and a time for healing, a time to live in plenty and a time to be in need.  A time to help and a time to be helped.  A time to talk and a time to keep your mouth shut.  I could go on and on.  How do you see God's hand in all of these times and circumstances?

This time in our church's history is a time of reflection and restoration, a time to look back at where we have been and a time to think about, plan, and prepare for where we want to go.  All of this is guided by God's hand.  "God works all things out for the good of those who love Him and have been called according to His purpose."

We need to be looking toward God and His purpose in the things taking place this week and in the weeks ahead.  He will have His will to be done in and through us!  How exciting is that?  He has big things planned for us!

In this time we don't stop doing God's work.  In fact, He may even ramp it up a bit in our lives.  This week and next we have many things going on.  Below is a list of the main things:

1. OAFC:  If you don't know what it is by now, you need to learn about it.  Go to OAFC.org to learn more about it.    A brief synopsis is that it is a group of high school age kids and their adult leaders who go to a different LCMS church once a month and do Bible study, evangelism and outreach in, for, and with the congregation.  The big parts are Bible study Friday night, Saturday morning, and Saturday night, door todoor canvassing Sat morning and afternoon, a program at a local nursing or retirement home, and leading of worship Sat and Sun.  Many have volunteered to house and feed these wonderful folks  this weekend.  What we really want now is people, both teens and adults, who will take some time out to participate in their activities.  Please call me and let me know if you can be there.

2. LUAU:  The Schirrs have opened their beautiful home to us Saturday night to have a good time of relaxation, fellowship, and good fun.  Thank you Schirrs!  Please call them TODAY if you haven't signed up yet!  This is an adults only party so kids need to stay home.

3. A NEW BIBLE STUDY ON PROVERBS:  It has been a while since we have started a new Bible study.  If you haven't been to Bible study for a while or have never attended, this Sunday is a perfect time to start.  Proverbs is full of God's wisdom!  If you want to know how to live your life in a more God pleasing way, this is the Bible study to be at!

4. JOPLIN RELIEF:  Hopefully by next week I will have a plan to take a group of folks down to Joplin to help with the relief efforts for a few days.  Please stay tuned, especially if you want to go.

Prayer:  Lord God, as we reflect and move forward, herlp us also to continue to do your work in every part of our lives!  Help us to realize that there is a time for everything under heaven, but that your work is always going on!  Amen.
