Downtown Trunk or Treat-- Saturday, October 27 3-6pm

St. John's is participating with other churches and businesses in the downtown Trunk or Treat this year on Saturday, October 27 from 3-6.  They will have the street blocked off just like they do for the Fall festival.  We can start setting up at 2pm.  Who else wants to join us and decorate their own trunk?

There will be prizes for best costume and best trunk, and there will also be bobbing for apples and grape stomping.

Let me know so we can tell them how many more parking spots we'll need.  Right now we have three reserved.  Thanks!

DAILY DEVOTION AND CHURCH NEWS: Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018

DEVOTION: Hebrews 2 English Standard Version (ESV)

Warning Against Neglecting Salvation

Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

The Founder of Salvation

For it was not to angels that God subjected the world to come, of which we are speaking. It has been testified somewhere,

"What is man, that you are mindful of him,
    or the son of man, that you care for him?
You made him for a little while lower than the angels;
    you have crowned him with glory and honor,[a]
    putting everything in subjection under his feet."

Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him. But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.

10 For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering. 11 For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source.[b] That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers,[c] 12 saying,

"I will tell of your name to my brothers;
    in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise."

13 And again,

"I will put my trust in him."

And again,

"Behold, I and the children God has given me."

14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. 16 For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. 17 Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

By the way, you can just download the app and set up a profile without ever doing anything with it.  You don't ever have to get on it.  You can just have it so you can watch cool videos like mine.

I'm still working on a different format so that everyone, even if they don't have the Facebook app, can watch or listen to it.

Also, I know of at least one person that has Facebook on their computer but can't get my videos.  Not sure what to do about that.  If someone has any knowledge of this problem and what to do about it, please share!!

Have a blessed day y'all!

Facebook live devotions require a Facebook account

I was always under the impression that you didn't need a Facebook account to  watch Facebook live videos.  I was wrong.  You do  need an account.  You never have to use the account or go on Facebook, but you do need to have an account to watch the videos.  I am currently researching a way to make my Mon-Thurs. video devos available to everyone.   Any suggestions would be helpful!

DAILY DEVOTION AND CHURCH NEWS: Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018

DEVOTION: Mark 9:38-50 English Standard Version (ESV)

Anyone Not Against Us Is for Us

38 John said to him, "Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name,[a] and we tried to stop him, because he was not following us." 39 But Jesus said, "Do not stop him, for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me. 40 For the one who is not against us is for us. 41 For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ will by no means lose his reward.

Temptations to Sin

42 "Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin,[b]it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea. 43 And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to hell,[c] to the unquenchable fire.[d] 45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell. 47 And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell, 48 'where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.' 49 For everyone will be salted with fire.[e] 50 Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, how will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another."

Would someone who doesn't have Facebook downloaded on their phone, computer, or tablet click on this link and tell me whether it works for you or not?  It should work, but if it isn't I'll have to figure something out.
