¹⁵ Glad songs of salvation
    are in the tents of the righteous:

I can only imagine the shouts of joy and victory that take place on a daily basis in paradise.  Next time you have time to let your mind wander, think about it.  Millions and millions of forgiven sinners who have overcome death by the cross of Christ.  Who can daily shout "He is risen indeed" because they can see Him face to face. The veil of death has been removed and they see Him in all his splendor. 

 

As we await that glorious day for ourselves, we are able to do so with patience and peace, because we know that the Lord Jesus is on our side.  He isn't some dead false god.  He is a resurrected and living Lord who has defeated death, the devil, and hell all for us! 

 

As we go through this Holy Week, and as we meditate on the Lord's passion, we do so somberly, because we know the price Christ paid for our sins.  At the same time, we can't help but want to shout out "Christ is risen!", because we know He is!  

 

Take time out of your too busy schedules this week to truly think about the joys of heaven and that one day you will shrug off this veil of tears and be with the Lord forever! 

 

Prayer: Lord, thank you for giving us Your Son to suffer and die for us, and for raising Him from the dead so that we too shall rise.  Amen.

JOB OPENING FOR OUR CHURCH SECRETARY

The elders met yesterday to talk about replacing our church secretary, Marilyn, after her fifteen years of service.  They decided to keep the position full time and to open it up to everyone, MALE or FEMALE, in our congregation and to the community at large. 

 

Resumes are now being accepted.  You can email them to pastor or bring them in to pastor at his office.  Interviews will take place once all resumes are received.  The name of the person that the interview committee chooses will be brought to the voter's assembly for approval on Sunday, May 21. 

 

A full job description and salary/benefits will be posted as soon as available.

PASTOR IS LOSING TO GAIN UPDATE

 

I've lost 6 lbs. so far.

 

Between Monday, April 3 and Friday, September 1,  I plan on losing as much weight as possible and as is healthy for me to lose.  My goal, the Lord willing, is 100lbs. which averages out to about 2/3 of a pound a day.   

 

I would like all of you to consider sponsoring me with a pledge of money per pound.  It can be $100, $10, $1, .50, or whatever  per pound.  The amount is up to you.

 

You will also have your choice of three different causes to donate to. 

 

Lead a Child--  An organization that raises money for Lutheran churches and schools in third world countries so that kids can go to school, get a quality education, and learn about Jesus.  (Go to www.leadachild.org to learn more)

 

Warren County Literacy Inc.---  Helping children achieve and grow in literacy in Warren County.  Our main emphasis is the bookcase project in which bookcases and books are donated to between 60-80 children from the Youth In Need and Headstart programs in Warren County.  We also have several "Little Free Libraries"  around the county.    (Check it out on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Warren-County-Literacy-Inc-1763714847229903/?ref=bookmarks or http://www.warrencountybookcaseproject.org/

 

Warren County Pregnancy Option Center---  This will be a place where expectant mothers and fathers can go and get counseling, coaching and referrals to medical services they need so that they can keep their child or give it up for adoption.   Our first annual banquet is Thursday, April 20 at 7pm at Holy Rosary, and I still need two people to fill the table.  More info will be coming soon about a Facebook page and websites.

Due to confirmation questioning being the same evening and the LWML Zone Rally the next day, the Hendershots are going to cancel their monthly Bible study and fellowship.  It will resume on Friday, May 19!

After working faithfully for St. John's for the last 14 years, Marilyn Foster, has announced that she will be retiring on May 31.  We are planning a retirement celebration for her on Sunday, May 21 after church.  More information will be coming about this soon.

For both RANDY AND PATTY SWEET'S MOTHERS,  Virginia, Patty's mom, has just been diagnosed with lung cancer.  Rose, Randy's mom, had a bad seizure two months ago, and although she is walking and talking fine, the seizure caused some dementia. 

 

For DANIELLE MEINE KRAMER, whose leukemia is back after a brief respite from it.  She had it for several years while in high school.  (She grew up riding Karin's school bus to school.)

 

For Mim Dunn's nephew DAVID HAHN who is dealing with severe throat cancer.

 

For LOIS BOEGER'S MOM, EVELYN TOEDEBUSCH,  who has been on hospice care for the last few months and slows down a little more every day, but is doing well.

"Jack" Faszholz was an amateur free agent pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, played on the St. Louis Cardinals' farm club team, and was known by the Rochester Red Wings. He went on to wear jersey Number 41 as a St. Louis Cardinal in 1953. Despite all this, his greatest "pitching" was for the Gospel of Christ Jesus. His 12-season career, mostly in the Minor Leagues, included starting pitcher in National League play against the New York Giants in the 1950s. He also won more games than any other pitcher in the franchise history of the Rochester Red Wings, gaining him a place in its Hall of Fame. But as good as baseball is, and as good as Jack was, there was something greater for him. Jack completed his seminary education at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. It was a dream fulfilled, stretching from his initial entry to the sem in 1947 to his completion in the spring of 1958. It was the string of opportunities in baseball that put seasonal pauses on his educational endeavors. But it did not put an end to them. The Missouri District invites you to pray for Pastor Truwe and the congregation as he begins his ministry at Trinity.     Announcements/Other News Missouri District Begins Search for Mission Executive Rev. Dr. Stuart Brassie will retire from his service with the Missouri District on June 30, 2017. Dr. Brassie has served the district since 1997. A search process has begun to replace Dr. Brassie in the position of Assistant to the President for Congregational and Mission Services. The position will focus on supporting congregations in mission and revitalization efforts. Candidates for the position should have a minimum of five years parish or field missionary experience and demonstrated leadership in congregational revitalization efforts and strategic planning. The Missouri District will host its first Mission Summit on June 3 at Concordia Seminary. The summit is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The keynote speaker for the summit will be Lutheran Hour Speaker, Rev. Greg Seltz. The summit is being held in conjunction with the Plus One Initiative to help prepare and inspire congregations to engage their communities with the Gospel. The Mission Summit is a collaboration with a number of LCMS entities to help support the district's witness and outreach emphasis. The speakers include outreach leaders from LCMS Office of National Mission, Lutheran Hour Ministries, Concordia Seminary and Lutheran Church Extension Fund. Additional financial support is being provided by Lutheran Church Extension Fund and Lutheran Foundation of St. Louis. We are bringing together all of the resources that we have in Missouri District to help support each congregation as they participate in God's mission. Plus One Plus One is the Missouri District initiative for all the congregations of the district to begin a new effort to reach out into the community in one new way. Congregations are encouraged to complete the participation form by May 1 and to send representatives to the Mission Summit on June 3 at Concordia Seminary. Additionally, each participating congregation will be assigned a trained coach to help the congregation plan, implement and evaluate their community outreach effort. There are 32 trained coaches from across the district to assist congregations. The coaches will not plan or force anything on the congregations, but will simply assist the congregation in the efforts which they choose. Currently, there are twelve pilot congregations that are working with coaches to plan their outreach project this Spring. We look forward to learning from these pilot congregations so that we can better assist congregations as Plus One is launched this summer at the Mission Summit. The summit will be held June 3 at Concordia Seminary with Lutheran Hour Speaker, Rev. Greg Seltz as the keynote speaker and with sectional presenters from LCMS Office of National Mission, Lutheran Hour Ministries, Concordia Seminary, Lutheran Church Extension Fund and other organizations. After graduation and ordination, to coin a phrase from one of his favorite verses, Hebrews 12:1, Jack ran "with perserverance the race marked out for" him with a 20-year career as a teacher and coach at two Lutheran high schools (Lutheran Central and Lutheran South in St. Louis). He continued making that "pitch" at Trinity, a mission congregation in Troy, Missouri, where he was asked to return to preach at its wind-up 50th anniversary in 2014. From 1978 to his retirement as an educator in 1990, he taught and coached at Concordia College – Austin, Texas, specializing in health and physical education classes as well as theology courses. Retirement from teaching and coaching did not put an end to his sharing of the Gospel. He volunteered as pitching coach for the team at Belle High School, providing services as a substitute preacher, and also was active at Mt. Cavalry Lutheran Church, Belle, Missouri. His innings in congregations stretched from Hope Lutheran Church, St. Louis, Missouri; Salem Lutheran Church, Affton, Missouri; and Hope Lutheran Church, Austin, Texas; plus St. Trinity, St. Louis, Missouri. Even Jack could not begin to estimate the number of lives he touched through his professional activities on the mound, in the classroom, at the pulpit, as a coach, as a faith leader, as a family man, and as a Christian running the bases with Christ. Students acclaimed him as a man of faith who saw positives in everyone. He taught youth how to go the long haul and encouraged others to befit mentally, physically, and spiritually – ready to run their own race. By his example he showed how to be ready for the seasons of life, bad innings included. He saw believers as winners with Christ in their hearts and lives. "I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Tim 4:7 On March 25, 2017, John "Jack" Faszholz reached the big League upon his entry to heavenly glory 17 days shy of his 90th birthday. He is survived by wife Annette S. (nee Gaebler), brothers Eugene (Marian) and Thomas (Jean), sister Katherine (Rich) Rasmussen and sister-in-law Jean Faszholz and their families; and adult children John E. "Jef," Jr. (Mary); Kurt G. (Lorre); Julie (John) Bertarelli; Peter R.; Paula "Polly" (Paul) Gregali; and Sarah B. "Sally" Faszholz (Rick Stephens), 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 14 nieces and nephews, and 22 great nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 27, at Salem Lutheran Church, 8343 Gravois Road, Affton, Missouri, 63123 (314-352-4454), with visitation from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. (refreshments following service in the fellowship hall). Another memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, at Mt. Cavalry Lutheran Church, 508 Taylor, Belle, Missouri 65013 (contact Rev. Roth at 573-576-1615). Finally, a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2, at the Chapel on the Concordia University – Texas campus, 11400 Concordia University Drive, Austin, Texas 78726 (contact Christell Logan at 512-313-3000). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of John E. Faszholz to the Lutheran High School Association of St. Louis, 5401 Lucas and Hunt Road, St. Louis, Missouri 63121-1503, and Concordia University – Texas, 11400 Concordia University Drive, Austin, Texas 78726. The Missouri District would like to inform that all pastors are invited to vest and wear red stoles. Pastors should arrive by 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 27 to process.
