DEVOTION:  2 Peter 1:16-21  English Standard Version (ESV)

Christ's Glory and the Prophetic Word

16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, "This is my beloved Son,[a] with whom I am well pleased," 18 we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. 19 And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, 20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

This stuff isn't made up folks.  Cleverly invented myths don't last 2,000 years. A book that is full of half truths and made up stories doesn't remain the number one selling book of all time.  IT IS REAL!!  IT IS TRUE!!  It is ALL GOD'S WORD GIVEN TO YOU!

Stop living as if it isn't.  Stop neglecting God's Word in your life.  Stop living your life as if God doesn't really exist.  HE DOES!  And Get your rear end to worship this weekend so the Holy Spirit can use it to change your life, grow you in faith, and give you real peace and rest!!

That's it!

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your real, true, life changing, Spirit filling, rest giving Word.  Amen.

A huge need

I am in need of someone to update our website on a regular basis.  If you have the time, I can show you how to do it.  It is really self explanatory.

It requires minimal technical ability and about an hour or two of your time once or twice a month.

Please let me know if you are willing to take it on.  I would appreciate it immensely!

DEVOTION:  Exodus 24:8-18English Standard Version (ESV)

And Moses took the blood and threw it on the people and said, "Behold the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words."

Then Moses and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up, 10 and they saw the God of Israel. There was under his feet as it were a pavement of sapphire stone, like the very heaven for clearness. 11 And he did not lay his hand on the chief men of the people of Israel; they beheld God, and ate and drank.

12 The Lord said to Moses, "Come up to me on the mountain and wait there, that I may give you the tablets of stone, with the law and the commandment, which I have written for their instruction." 13 So Moses rose with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up into the mountain of God. 14 And he said to the elders, "Wait here for us until we return to you. And behold, Aaron and Hur are with you. Whoever has a dispute, let him go to them."

15 Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. 16 The glory of the Lord dwelt on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day he called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud. 17 Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel. 18 Moses entered the cloud and went up on the mountain. And Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

Today, I had the privilege to be with Barb Perricone as she took her last breath on this earth.  I can only imagine what it was like for her when her spirit left her body and joined the Lord Jesus in glory.  I can only imagine, because I didn't experience it.  I only know from what the Lord himself has told me about what it's like.

The same is true for this reading today.  We can only see it through the words of Moses here.  There isn't a whole lot of description, and rightly so.  No amount of description would do it justice.

It was the same at the Transfiguration.  Peter could only say, "It is good for us to be here." And "Let me make some tents so we can stay here for a while."

Personally, It's hard for me to wait for the day that I will join Jesus in paradise.    It sounds so wonderful!  The longer you live on this earth, and are a stranger here, the more you long for heaven, which is your real home.  Till then, may God give us patience and peace as we wait, that we may be the witnesses of his mercy and grace to all around us.

Let us pray: Lord, thank you for giving us these little glimpses of heaven, but we pray that you come quickly so that these little glimpses can be our present and eternal reality.  Amen.

YESTERDAY'S QUIZ:   Where was Beth Peor, and what is there today?

From Patty Herath: Beth-peor in Moab where Moses received the 10 commandments, sent Joshua out, those not allowed in  promised stayed, and where Moses is buried. Today it is Jordan?

From Don Nolte:  Seat of worship of the Moabite god Baal-peor Beside the Mt. Peor.  East of Jericho  Close to the valey where the Israelites encamped immediately before descending into the plain of the Jordan.  Close to where Moses was buried.

Both are correct!  Thanks Patty and Don!

Bookcase Project

As most of you know, I am in a group called "Warren County Literacy Inc.  Our main goal is to help kids become literate, and learn to read well enough to become productive members of our community.  Every year we provide a real wood (oak) bookcase to usually between 50-70 kids.

It's that time of year again.  So far this year we have 55 kids that will receive their own bookcase and a bag full of books.  I am hoping that you will donate $50 for a bookcase again this year.  You are helping another generation of kids learn to read and be productive citizens in our community!

Please let me know you are willing to donate, then make checks payable to "Warren County Literacy Inc.", bring the check  to church and leave them on my desk or give them to me directly, and I will get them to the proper folks!

The Bookcase Awards Ceremony will be on Sunday, March 26, at 2pm, at Warrior Ridge Elementary School in Warrenton. If you donate, we'd love to have you there to present a bookcase to a student.

Thank you so much in advance!

Pastor

DEVOTION:  Matthew 5:38-48  English Standard Version (ESV)

Retaliation

38 "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' 39 But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40 And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic,[a] let him have your cloak as well. 41 And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42 Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.

Love Your Enemies

43 "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers,[b] what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48 You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Love your enemies and pray for them?  Turn the other cheek?  Give him your cloak as well?  Go the extra mile?  Give, give, give.

Doesn't it sound like Jesus is asking us to get walked on, stepped on, used, and abused?  It does to me.  But here's the deal, everything we do in faith is to point to the way that the Lord Jesus loves us and gave himself up for us.

We are the person who was an enemy of God and Jesus made us His children.  Every time we sin against someone else, whether it be in retaliation or even unknown to us, we sin against Almighty God.  We are the beggar.  We are the one who "forces" God to go with us. We are the ones who slap Jesus in the face.

So the next time you think it's ok to retaliate, remember that it should then be ok for the Lord God to retaliate against you and give you what you deserve.  Instead of that, why don't you just live by this rule…. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."  Then remember what Christ has done for you!  He's done it all!

Prayer: Lord, when I think of my enemies, help me to remember that I was once your enemy, but you gave me yourself and made me your child.  Amen.
