Quiz for today
Here's another one:
"When words are __________ sin is not absent, but he who __________ his tongue is wise."
Thursday, May 21, 2015
As I have sat and watched Cara suffer quite a bit the last couple days, I was reminded of this verse. I'm also reminded of the saying, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger."
As much as I want to help Cara and as much as I just want to take the pain away from her, I know that this "testing", this "trial" will give her a bigger and greater perspective and will make her a tougher more resolute and resilient human being. She is going to have a story to tell her own kids some day. She will also be able to relate to those who are truly suffering better as well.
The main thing is that she will have at least a little better understanding of what Jesus went through on the cross. It wasn't the pretty thing we make it out to be on our crucifixes and pretty cross pictures. It was gory. It was excruciatingly painful. It was the worst pain anyone could ever go through. Then imagine all that physical pain and to top it all off, being forsaken by the Father, suffering actual hell. Nothing can compare.
Being in pain also helps you to realize how helpless and out of control you really are. It makes you, forces you, to rely on the Lord Almighty for help, strength, and your very life.
Soon Cara's pain will be gone and this will be a distant memory for her. Right now it is acute and real.... and it is good. It is good because as Paul says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Cara is learning that full well today! Praise be to God!
Prayer: Thank you God for carrying Cara through this journey. Help her to bear the pain with confidence that you are with her and that you are strengthening her through it. Amen.

Very funny Book Report on the Bible

Subject: Fw: Book Report
Subj: Childs report on the Bible
Book report on the entire Bible (ENJOY! !)
I am glad that I did not need to grade this paper. The young man has
real talent though. A little shaky on dates but good chronology. A
sixth grade child was asked to write a book report on the entire Bible.
Here is what he wrote;
The Children's Bible in a Nutshell
In the beginning, which occurred near the start, there was nothing
but God, darkness, and some gas. The Bible says,"The Lord thy God is
one," but I think He must be a lot older than that.
Anyway, God said, "Give me a light!" and someone did.
Then God made the world.
He split the Adam and made Eve. Adam and Eve were naked, but they
weren't embarrassed because mirrors hadn't been invented yet.
Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating one bad apple, so they were
driven from the Garden of Eden ... Not sure what they were driven in
though, because they didn't have cars.
Adam and Eve had a son, Cain, who hated his brother as long as he was
Abel. Pretty soon all of the early people died off, except for
Methuselah, who lived to be like a million or something.
One of the next important people was Noah, who was a good guy, but
one of his kids was kind of a Ham. Noah built a large boat and put his
family and some animals on it. He asked some other people to join him,
but they said they would have to take a rain check.
After Noah came Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Jacob was more famous than
his brother, Esau, because Esau sold Jacob his birthmark in exchange for
some pot roast. Jacob had a son named Joseph who wore a really loud
sports coat.
Another important Bible guy is Moses, whose real name was Charlton
Heston. Moses led the Israel Lights out of Egypt and away from the evil
Pharaoh after God sent ten plagues on Pharaoh's people. These plagues
included frogs, mice, lice, bowels, and no cable.
God fed the Israel Lights every day with manicotti. Then he gave them
His Top Ten Commandments. These include: don't lie, cheat, smoke, dance,
or covet your neighbor's stuff.
Oh, yeah, I just thought of one more: Humor thy father and thy mother.
One of Moses' best helpers was Joshua who was the first Bible guy to
use spies. Joshua fought the battle of Geritol and the fence fell over
on the town.
After Joshua came David. He got to be king by killing a giant with a
slingshot. He had a son named Solomon who had about 300 wives and 500
porcupines. My teacher says he was wise, but that doesn't sound very
wise to me.
After Solomon there were a bunch of major league prophets. One of
these was Jonah, who was swallowed by a big whale and then barfed up on
the shore. There were also some minor league prophets, but I guess we
don't have to worry about them.
After the Old Testament came the New Testament. Jesus is the star of
The New Testament. He was born in Bethlehem in a barn. (I wish I had
been born in a barn too, because my mom is always saying to me, "Close
the door! Were you born in a barn?" It would be nice to say, ''As a
matter of fact, I was.'')
During His life, Jesus had many arguments with sinners like the
Pharisees and the Republicans. Jesus also had twelve opossums. The worst
one was Judas Asparagus. Judas was so evil that they named a terrible
vegetable after him.
Jesus was a great man. He healed many leopards and even preached to
some Germans on the Mount. But the Democrats and all those guys put
Jesus on trial before Pontius the Pilot. Pilot didn't stick up for
Jesus. He just washed his hands instead.
Anyways, Jesus died for our sins, then came back to life again. He
went up to Heaven but will be back at the end of the Aluminum. His
return is foretold in the book of Revolution.
(Nothing bad will happen if you don't forward this, but if you do
forward this delightful story you'll make someone LAUGH today, and
they'll keep spreading the laughter by sending it on!!)

As most of you know, Cara is having surgery tomorrow. She will be having her ribcage repaired by the doctor taking out the cartilage and repositioning the bones to where they should be. Then he will put a titanium rod, maybe two, in place to keep the bones positioned correctly so that the cartilage grows back where it should.
She will have a long road of recovery, but when she is done with it she will feel like a new person! She will be able to breath better, since now her lungs are only at 80% capacity. Her ribs and her back won't hurt her anymore. It'll be wonderful..... if she follows the doctors instructions that is.
She will have to wear a protective brace/covering every time she gets up out of bed for a long time. I hate to even think about would happen if she didn't? She could severely injure herself and ruin her recovery. She isn't supposed to lift anything for a long time. I hate to think of what would happen if she did. She isn't supposed to run or do any sort of strenuous activity for a long time. If she does it would probably mean another surgery. Doing those things without the doctor's approval is just plain stupid.
When people don't listen to those whoa re trying to tell them what is good for them and what they should do. It's stupid. When people are being corrected for something they have done wrong and they fail to heed the correction and go back to doing that stupid thing again. They're stupid! When people, who know that worship is good for them, or that following Christ's commands to love and forgive are good things, or that they need to repent, and still they don't. They're stupid!
And I, for one, am not afraid to tell you so! People do it to me all the time, and I am thankful for it! I love discipline and I know that it is good to listen to correction and follow it! I pray that you do too!
Prayer: Lord, help those who need to be corrected and disciplined to take it to heart and learn from it! Amen.

The Most Holy Place or The Holy of Holies, was a place only the high priest could enter and then only after he had made himself completely ceremonially and spiritually clean. It showed the separation of God and men. If anyone went into it unauthorized they would be put to death. Before this, as the Israelites wandered through the wilderness they had a tent called the tabernacle. It too had a Most Holy Place but only a thick curtain separated it. After the temple was destroyed by the Babylonians and new temple was built and it too only had a thick curtain separating the Most Holy Place.
On Good Friday, as Jesus died, there was a great earthquake. The earth shook, the rocks split, and the temple curtain was torn completely in two from top to bottom exposing the Most Holy Place and signifying that there was no longer an separation between God and man, but that our perfect mediator had paid the price and won our entrance to meet and sit with God Almighty!
We are no longer separated by holiness. Jesus has imputed his holiness on us. We are not holy within ourselves or by our own doing, but since we have been baptized into Christ we have been clothed with Christ. Therefore it is no longer we who live but Christ who lives in us. REJOICE!! We can go to God directly! When we pray we can pray to Lord god Almighty. A priest does not need to pray for us. When we entreat God to forgive our sins, we don't need to purify ourselves first. We don't need to bring a sacrifice. Christ Jesus is our sacrifice whole and complete for us! REJOICE!!
Let us pray: Lord God, thank you for breaking down the wall that separates us from you by sending your son to be our mediator and our sacrifice! We thank you for making us holy and complete so that we can come to you in confidence and know that you will hear us and do your will for us! Amen.
