DEVOTION:  Sometimes you just have to let God's Word speak for itself.  Anything I would add to today's reading would lessen it.  So here it is.  Enjoy being reminded of the majesty and omniscience of the Lord!

Psalm 139 English Standard Version (ESV)

Search Me, O God, and Know My Heart

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

139 O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
    you discern my thoughts from afar.
You search out my path and my lying down
    and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue,
    behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
You hem me in, behind and before,
    and lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
    it is high; I cannot attain it.

Where shall I go from your Spirit?
    Or where shall I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
    If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
If I take the wings of the morning
    and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
10 even there your hand shall lead me,
    and your right hand shall hold me.
11 If I say, "Surely the darkness shall cover me,
    and the light about me be night,"
12 even the darkness is not dark to you;
    the night is bright as the day,
    for darkness is as light with you.

13 For you formed my inward parts;
    you knitted me together in my mother's womb.
14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.[a]
Wonderful are your works;
    my soul knows it very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
    intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
    the days that were formed for me,
    when as yet there was none of them.

17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
    How vast is the sum of them!
18 If I would count them, they are more than the sand.
    I awake, and I am still with you.

Prayer:  Lord God, bless me to see and acknowledge your power and control in my life more and more each day.  Amen.

DEVOTION: "I rejoiced with those who said to me, "Let us go to the house of the Lord."  Psalm 122:1

Yesterday, I was at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, MN to see my nephew Isaac confirm his faith!  It was wonderful to be in worship yesterday, to see church full of people, to worship with all of my family, to sing familiar hymns and songs in an unfamiliar place, to hear God's Word, and to even hear a former classmate of mine preach God's Word to us all.  I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go to the house of the Lord!"

Last Sunday I was able to see my own daughter along with seven other kids that I have watched grow up confirm their faith.  I was able to hear them talk about what their faith means to them and how great God is to them.  I was able to worship with many of my brothers and sisters in Christ here in Warrenton, sing some great hymns, and receive the Lord's Supper.

While these were two extra special worship services in the last two weeks, every Sunday is special.  It is special because we get to go to the house of the Lord!  We get to worship a God who loves us so much that he sent his only Son to die for us.  We get to worship with many other people who love us.  We get to receive Christ in His Word and Sacraments.  In summary, we get JESUS!

If you've been neglecting worship lately, and by the looks of things many of you have been, I urge you to consider why you've been neglecting it, repent of it, and turn back to God so that you can be glad along with all of your brothers that you can go to the house of the Lord!

Prayer: Make us to rejoice that we get to go to the house of the Lord!  Amen.

DEVOTION:  Ascribe to the Lord, O mighty one, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.  Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.  Psalm 29:1

When something good happens in your life to whom do you give credit?  When something bad happens in your life or in the life of someone you love who do you blame?

We like to blame God, or at least ask the question "Why is God allowing this to happen?"  But do we really ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name?

Here's a list of things for which to give God glory this morning:
You woke up
You're breathing
You had the opportunity to have breakfast
You had a car to drive to work
You had a job
You have a family
You have a church
You have a church family that loves you
You have a home
You have nice clothes to wear
The sun is shining
The birds are singing
There is clean air to breathe
There is clean water to drink
ETC.
This list is endless

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS JESUS!!!!!  If all the rest of the above list was taken away, you would still have Jesus!  And in the end he is all you will have and all you will need!  He will take you from this life to life eternal.  He will take you to perfect peace!

So instead of blaming God every time something goes wrong when it is really your fault or the fault of sin in the world, ascribe to him the glory due his name!  He is above and beyond all other needs.  He is really our first and foremost and only need!  Rejoice in that today!  Worship him in the splendor of his holiness!!

Prayer: Lord God, make me to give you the glory today!  Amen.

Two new programs from MO rides: Carpool and Driving Retirement

Below is a news release from Deanna Dothage who is the Mobility coordinator for the Boonslick Regoinal Planning Commission.

CARPOOL
Boonslick Regional Planning Commission is pleased to announce the MO RIDES Carpool Program. Visit MO RIDES website, www.morides.org/carpool. MO RIDES serves Franklin, Lincoln, Montgomery, St. Charles and Warren Counties.
To utilize the carpool service, a person will need to provide us with their information to be matched with other carpoolers. When MO RIDES finds a match with similar starting points and destinations, the rider/driver will be contacted for permission to be connected with the other potential carpooler(s). Register with MO RIDES for FREE carpool service by completing your carpool profile either online or by filling in our carpool form. You will then be included in a data base pending a match with another carpooler. You do not have to own a car to participate. We will strive to find non drivers rides with owner/drivers, as well as owner/drivers with owner/drivers.
If you do not have access to MO RIDES website, you may email ddothage@boonslick.org or call 636-359-4656 and a form will be provided for you to complete. You will also need to Mail a RECORD CHECK that you obtain from the Sheriff's Department in the county of your residence to Deana Tucker Dothage, MO RIDES, PO Box 429, Warrenton, MO 63383.

DRIVING RETIREMENT
Click on the DRIVING RETIREMENT LINK www.morides.org/driving-retirement/ This new page provides information to consider when one must retire from driving. Most people adapt well to driving retirement and are satisfied with their decision within months of stopping, especially if they have planned ahead for the change. Make MO RIDES a part of your plan.
This mobility management program is funded by: New Freedom Grant (FTA-5317) from the Missouri Department of Transportation
Missouri Developmental Disabilities Council under provisions of PL 106-402, the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act.

From Linda Callies re: Vendor's Fair

Would you please forward this message to your mailing list.

Attention Ladies Aid members:  Please remember to bring your desserts for the luncheon on Friday or very early on Sat. so we can prepare the individual servings.

Congregation:  As in previous years we are asking for food donations to the bake table for the Vendor's Fair.  Cookies should be packed on a disposable plate in servings of 6 or 12.  The money we earn goes to local, state, national & international missions.  Please help us to do our share for these worth causes.

We thank all who have participated over the years.  We couldn't do it without your help.

DEVOTION:  How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty!  My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord, my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.  Psalm 94:1

Have you ever noticed how beautiful and big our church sanctuary is?  The big huge cross towers over the wonderful altar that so often holds Christ's body and blood.  The beautiful stained glass windows let in just enough light to show God's glory and power.  Even the pews and their cushions welcome weary souls to come and listen to God's sweet word of grace and rest.

When we gather together there is even more beauty to behold.  As our choir sings sweet melodies and harmonies we carried up to heaven for just a moment as their voices join the angels and saints in heaven.  Then the congregation joins together to sing great hymns full of God's Word in praise back to Him for what he has done for us.  Our ears are filled with God's Word both of law to chastise us for our sins and healing Gospel to fill our souls with rest in God's grace.  Then we get to go up to the altar to receive nothing less than the real and true body and blood of Christ, but even on the way up we pass the baptismal font to remind us that we are washed and cleansed in and through it by the water and the Word.  As we hear the benediction we are reminded that the God who loves us is always with us and will never leave us or forsake us.

I could go on and on.  The question I constantly have is why would anyone want to keep himself or herself from such beauty, wonder and majesty?  Why would someone choose another hour of sleep over true rest in God's Word and sacraments?  Could it be that the sin in that person's life is having its way with him or her?  Could it be that the world is pulling the wool over people's eyes and telling them that what the world has is more beautiful and enticing than what God Almighty has for them?  Say it ain't so.  Yet it is.  And people are falling for it hook, line, and sinker.  There's nothing that makes me more sad and discouraged than when people are neglecting worship.

Every time I go upstairs to the sanctuary I have to pause for just a moment, because I am always brought to the realization that I am in God's courts, in his dwelling place.  I am truly brought to the realization that I am in his midst!

My prayer is that if you are neglecting God's holy house,  you will realize what you are missing and get back into it.  That you will put all the other stuff aside and take time to come into the real presence of Almighty God!  Give up your selfishness, your bitterness, your tiredness, your busyness, your schedules, and everything else that is hindering you and come into the presence of God once again that he may refresh you and give you the grace you need to make it through your life.

Let us pray:  Lord, make us to come into your courts with thanksgiving and praise so that you may fill us with what we need.  Amen.
