C.H.U.R.C.H. Ministry appeal for the NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER BREAKFAST items!!!!!
GREETINGS ALL YOU St. John's C.H.U.R.C.H. Ministry go-getters!!!!!!!!!!
On Thursday, May 2, 2013 we are hosting a National Day of Prayer observance like we did the past 3 years. We are serving a continental breakfast in the church overflow area from 6:30 AM - 7:00 AM.
At 7:00 AM Pastor Klaustermeier will begin a prayer and devotion time in our sanctuary with music by Barb Dreyer.
You all have another opportunity to help out by donating the items for the breakfast. We did have a pretty good turnout last year; but we never really know how many to expect. I believe the following list should be plenty to serve the folks who come that morning. Hopefully, some of our Little Lambs and their parents will be able to attend before school begins.
Please have your donated items to church
ON Wed. May 1, 2013 for maximum freshness
(Refrigerated items can be put in the refrigerators in the church kitchen - the others on the island in the church kitchen)
Items should be plainly marked
"FOR NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER BREAKFAST"
So as not to get mixed with Ladies Aid Luncheon, Craft & Bake Sale Items
IMPORTANT: Please respond by emailing Sandy Robine at snsrobine@centurytel.net
and let her know what item you will donate and how much of that item or if you have any questions!

People are still trying to "make sense" of what happened yesterday. If you don't know by now, let me tell you what happened. Someone, or a group of people, placed two bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon yesterday and blew them up killing three people and injuring (at last count) 140 people.
Now comes the questions, among them is "Why?"
I have heard many people say over the years that human beings are basically good. Let me tell you the truth on that. According to this verse and many others human beings are not basically good. In another verse it says this" For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God."
Man is not basically good. He is basically sinful. When we see things like this and the story of a guy who drove up to an elephant at the Ringling Brothers Circus Tent after a show one night and shot an elephant for no reason, and the kids in St. Louis and other places who play this game called Knock Out where they go up to unsuspecting, innocent people and beat them till they are knocked out, need I go on?
Yesterday's events are just another example of the evil in the world and the inherent evil in humanity. To try to make sense out of something that is from Satan is senseless in and of itself.
That is the cold hard truth. There is no sense, only sin.
The other truth is much better, much more wonderful! The other truth is that God incarnate, Jesus Himself, has come into this cruel sinful world to save sinners. He came to take us out of this sinful world and away from our own sinfulness and the sinfulness of others. In the end He will do away with this old sinful earth and transform it into what it once was before the Fall and what He created it for and intended it to be.
Jesus said "I am the way, and the truth, and the life...." Instead of trying to make sense of senseless things, instead trying to put your faith in flawed sinful human beings, put your faith in God the creator and redeemer of all things!
Let us pray: Lord God, help me not to put my trust in Your creation but in You! Help me to keep my faith where it belongs, in Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help me to live by the power of the Holy Spirit so that one day I may join you in that sinless paradise. Amen.

Prayer request for those hurt by bombs in Boston
Peace be with you al as you hold your loved ones close and tell them you love them!l!
Monday, April 15, 2013 (revised)
Jonas is dealing with a return of his cancer.
Pat's cousin is seeing the doctor today about an ovarian cyst.
A lot of times we like to dwell on the past. This is not a good thing. Don't get me wrong, it is good to learn from our mistakes and it is also good to keep the things that were good in the past. Yet, if we live in and past and continually dwell on it, we too often miss out on what is going on right now and we forget about the hope of the future.
Paul could have lived in the past. What an awful past he had. He was actually responsible for the death of many Christians and the arrest and persecution of others. I am sure, even many years after his conversion, there were those who still didn't trust him and didn't like him very much. There is evidence to this fact in his meetings with the Apostles in Jerusalem. If anyone deserved to be ridiculed and ostracized for who he had been it would have been Paul.
Still, he didn't let that ruin his present and future. He didn't let his past mistakes and failures ruin his present and future as a child and servant of Christ. Instead he pressed on toward the goal of heaven with Christ!
We should all take a view of such things. Certainly we should learn from our mistakes and the mistakes of others. We shouldn't just ignore those things as if they didn't happen. Yet, when those things are past and there is nothing we can do to take them back or change them, we should be as we are, FORGIVEN. If someone has hurt or offended us by their mistakes we should be willing to forgive and forget. Our Lord, the Holy Spirit has given us the power to do that very thing and He will bless us when we do it.
I urge you that, once you have dealt with the past and done the best you can to forgive and be forgiven, press on toward the goal for which Christ has called you heavenward and have joy in your hearts knowing that your sins are forgiven!
We have a great opportunity to do just that in the coming weeks and months ahead. We will be embarking on a new capital campaign for ministry expansion. We have a great nucleus of young people in our church who are very active in many ways. Not only do we want to keep them active but we want to also increase the number of kids and young adults members and encourage even more to continue to be active in our church and community!
In the near future we will be asking some of you to be a part of our capital campaign committee. If you are interested in being a part of this committee to work to make ministry happen in this place and to work to make disciples of all nations please reply to this email, or call/text me at 359-1061.
I am excited about the future of St. John's and all of the new disciples the Lord will make in and through this place and these people called St. John's Lutheran Church!
Let us pray: Lord God, help us to press on toward the goal for which Christ has called us heavenward! Holy Spirit, fill us with joy and peace as we go out into the world and make disciples of all nations starting with our own families and communities. Amen.

prayer request from Pat King
Just got word from my cousin in Seattle that she has to see the MD on Monday about an ovarian cyst. At least, that's what they're hoping it is. She had a hysterectomy years ago, but they left the left ovary. Anyway, she's hoping it's something mickey mouse, and not the big "C."
update on Jonas Borchert, Don Nolte's grandson
Well, we almost made it a year.
On April 1st we got results from Jonas's nine month scans telling us that his cancer has reemerged. Our hearts are heavy with grief and we are desperately readjusting to the reality of it all. It has been a long 10 days and Jonas did not want me to post anything about it until we had all the test under our belts and he knew just what he was facing. All the tests show that this is once again all Ewings Sarcoma and is considered a matasteses because it has spread to other areas. The biggest mass is an area behind his right ear that has caused a bump that can felt on the outside of his head. It has eaten through the cranium (outside to inside) and is spreading out along the brain barrier. It has also spread to his right tonsil, several lymph nodes on the right side of his neck and two on the left side, and four spots on his lungs. The most recent test show that the cancer has not gotten into his brain fluid, spinal fluid, or bone marrow!!! This is wonderful news! You cannot imagine how that would have changed his prognosis. Whew! His protocol this time is extremely different. Once a Ewings patient is relapsed they move into experimental/clinical trials. Jonas has been fortunate enough to get in on a very promising trial right off the bat. (I will tell you more about it as I understand it better.) But here is what it will look like to us: Every morning for two weeks we will drive thirty minutes to Overland Park, KS to get radiation treatment at 7am and then drive 30 minutes to downtown Kansas City, MO to get chemo. Then he will have one week off. Then, two more weeks back on. After that, we reevaluate. We do not look forward to the time he will spend on the highway, but he is extremely pleased that he will not be doing hard hospitalization time again.Jonas is feeling exceptionally well and is extremely optimistic about beating this cancer back once again. In fact, on Easter weekend - just days before the news, he was running though the yard and goofing off with friends for hours in the beautiful spring weather. If you are on FB, please befriend that creepy Tumor named Tricky Ewing and tell him off. First of all, you can see the MRI of his head on the page. And secondly, its a more lighthearted way to let Jonas know you care and support him without getting too heavy with grief.Love to you all.Send a message

You have picked the wrong person to "pick" on!!! Jonas has an army behind him backing him all the way, so please just realize you WILL NOT WIN and quit now! If you must continue, you have been warned!! We love this guy to the moon and back and you need to know, "we got his back"!!! Love to all of you Borchert family - we got your back, too ;)Posted 26 minutes agoby marilyn koshlandDear Tricky Ewing,
Please leave my friend, my dear friend Jonas, alone! I need him to do yard work and I don't like your taking all his time! You must have better things to do than pester a young boy....if you don't go immediately, I will send my homes association board....and believe me, you won't want to mess with them! We send love to Jonas and all his family, but not to you...
