DEVOTION: Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me. for in you my soul takes refuge. Psalm 57:1

Have you ever had one of those days where everything goes wrong, where nothing seems to be right, where you feel as though you are pushing your life uphill with someone or something pushing back on you?

I had one of those days yesterday. Nothing seemed right. It all seemed wrong. I kept dropping things, I got a couple of bills in the mail that I didn't expect or want. A few people gave m bad news about things. There were even people who just didn't like what I had to say to them and got mad at me.

Ever had one of those days?????

It is on those days that I realize more and more that I am not in control of my own life. Things can spiral out of control in an instant. Heck, I could be dead in an instant. But it is also on those days, especially at the end of them, that I can go to God Almighty for refuge. I am not in control of my life, but God is. He is in control and that is a very good thing. He is in control of my destiny and He has promised to bring me to be with Him for whatever.

SO when Satan spoils or frustrates your day, you can tell Him to go to hell. Literally...... That is where He is going to spend eternity. As for you, all you need to say for yourself is, "Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in you my soul takes refuge."

Let us pray: Lord God, help me to take refuge in you every day but especially on those bad days like yesterday. Amen.

Even though it is only 30 degrees. Winter is over and Spring has sprung! Time to gear up for some activities and fellowship. It has been on my mind and heart to begin a men's ministry at St. John's. I would like us to begin with a men's breakfast on Sat, April 27 at 8am. I will do the cooking, but I would like a guy or two to help me out. We will eat breakfast and have a half hour devotion, followed by the planning of future gatherings and events. Along with that there will again be parking lot spaces available for our 5th annual Flea market. parking spaces are $10 a space. More info below:

Basement and Little Lambs Classrooms: The Ladies Aid is adding INSIDE spaces for vendors, crafters, and bakers to their Spring Craft and Bake Sale. You can reserve your own spot to sell your own wares for $20 per table. These spots are open to St. John's members first before being open to the public. If you are interested, call Coleen Bottorff 456-5482 or the church office 456-2888 within the next two weeks.

Parking Lot: The Annual Flea Market will continue as it has the past four years. Parking spaces will remain $10 per space. Proceeds from the outdoor parking space rentals and Little Lambs sale under the pavilion will benefit the preschool. They are raising funds for their new Summer Camp Programs and to enhance preschool. Please call the Little Lambs teachers or the church office to rent a parking space 456-2888

DEVOTION: "Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me." Psalm 54:4

David wrote this as he was being hunted by King Saul. Because of Saul's jealousy over the popularity of David, Saul wanted to kill him, because he was afraid of him usurping his power and authority. As we know, David did become king, but not because he overthrew King Saul. He didn't. Saul was killed by his own sword after the Philistines, who were attacking him, caught up to him and were about to overtake him. he decided to kill himself instead of being killed or captured by the Philistines. David became King because the Lord was with Him and protected him from Saul and all the other enemies around him.

If you were to think of all the times you almost died, or that you barely escaped with your life in a situation, how many could you come up with that you know about? How many times were you driving down the road and someone barely missed your car? How many times were you so sick with a fever or with some sort of an infection or breathing problem that you were near death?

Now think about all of those times when that you don't even know about when the angels swooped down and kept you from harm. Think about all of the stuff you forget about every day. Think about how God created your body with certain germ fighting mechanisms, with skin, and hair to keep you alive and healthy.

It is the Lord who helps you. It is the Lord who keeps you alive. It is the Lord who sustains you. And it is the Lord who takes you to heaven to be with Him forever. "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understandings. In ALL your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path."

Let us pray: Lord God help me to realize that you are the one who, literally, keeps me alive from day to day, and when it is Your will You will take me to be with you in paradise. Help me to realize that You are in charge of every aspect of my life. Help me to relax and enjoy all that You have given me. Allow me to enjoy the ride! Amen.

National Day of Prayer Help- May 2, 2013 this year!!!

That time of year is coming up again in just 1 month!!

National Day of Prayer - THURSDAY - May 2, 2013

Just wanted to send this little reminder for you all to mark your calendars for THURSDAY, MAY 2, 2013 so you know to set your alarms for ZERO DARK THIRTY that day!

We will have the breakfast buffet starting at 6:30 AM that day with the Prayer Service beginning at 7 AM. The church will remain open until about noon if anyone wants to stay after and fellowship with others and eat any leftovers! Also, there will be a few of us there to pray with anyone who wants some one on one time. Anyone is also welcome to just sit in our church sanctuary and pray by themselves, as well.

In the next couple of weeks I will be creating my famous LIST of items needed for the breakfast via our AWESOME C.H.U.R.C.H. Ministry here at St. John's.

For our newer church family members, that stands for C.hristians H.elping U.plift R.Our C.ommunity in H.im.

You ALL really rally every time we send out one of these "calls to help" and your help and generosity is ALWAYS appreciated.

DEVOTION: (From Lutheran Hour Ministries)The LORD says "... They shall all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest," declares the LORD. "For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more." Thus says the LORD, who gives the sun for light by day and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar -- the LORD of Hosts is His Name. Jeremiah 31:34b-35

On Wednesday, March 13, the largest ground-based telescope on earth was dedicated at Atacama Desert in Chile.

According to the press releases, this telescope, costing $1.3 billion, is a cooperative venture of interested parties from North America, Europe and Asia. Furthermore, it is a technological marvel, making 66 separate antennas function as one. This all will be done so humankind can be given a peek into the most distant places of the universe.

It is hoped the telescope will give insight into the birth, life and death of stars and planets. To reapply Captain Kirk's monologue from Star Trek, it is believed this telescope will "boldly go where no man has ever gone before."

The idea of such far-reaching exploration is fascinating.

What I find even more fascinating is that when humankind looks out into the unexplored universe they will find God has already been there, and He is looking back at us. Even more, we are privileged to see a great miracle in the limitless power of the Lord of Hosts, who, even before time began, and beginning with nothing, gave light and substance to stars and planets.

But wait! There is an even greater miracle here.

The Triune God who created everything has also put into place a plan by which humankind can be saved. Not just content to create, God has also given His Son so that His once-perfect, but now-sinful children might be forgiven, saved, recycled and redeemed.

Through Jesus' life, through His death and wonderful resurrection, God has brought a spiritual light to our sin-darkened souls. Through Jesus' work we have been saved from sin and the devil. Because of Him, the grave no longer has threat or sting.

Now what I've just shared cannot be perceived by any man-made telescope, no matter how big it may be. On the other hand, God's grace can be seen most clearly if anyone will take a look at Jesus' Bethlehem manger, His Jerusalem cross, and the borrowed and empty tomb.

THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, humanity is proud that technology has allowed us to see further and go farther than previous generations could have imagined. We pray You will now grant us a spirit of humility. Let us realize that no matter how far we go, You will already have been there. Most of all we ask for a heart that worships the Savior who lived, died and rose to win our eternal salvation. In His Name I pray it. Amen.
