St. John's Group Email Update on Ruth Cantrell

Friends and Family

 

The operation went real well yesterday.  As they had to remove a part of her bowel along with the tumor it will be some time before she comes home. She is at St Joseph West room 2253. Right now she is not feeling well and is on a lot of pain medication.  In a few days she should feel well enough for visitors. 

 

Remember to keep Ruth in you thoughts and prayers.

St. John's Group Email A little bit of funny to brighten your day : Mayonnaise and a bit of history

THANKS DON TURNURE!
 

Hellmann's Mayonnaise - a bit of history.   Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England . In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico , which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York . This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make it to   New York . The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost. The people of Mexico , who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day.    The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as - Sinko De Mayo.  WHAT??? You expected something educational from me?

2.  Pray for DON NOLTE'S GRANDSON, JONAS, who is dealing with a cancerous tumor in his brain. 
 
Note: Don is heading to Kansas City to be with his grandson and family and has CANCELLED HIS PARTY FOR SATURDAY.

DEVOTION: 

He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD. Proverbs 18:22 Pastor Abel, the man who confirmed me, liked to throw out little bits of wisdom. One of those bits pastor shared with his confirmands was "Marry in haste, repent at leisure." While I can't remember Gilbert Herrick sitting next to me in that class, I'm sure he must have. I'm sure, because, if anyone took that expression seriously, it has to be Herrick. Let me explain. For a considerable period of time Herrick has been looking for a wife. He's spent plenty of time checking out the prospects, looking over the field, but he just never made that long walk down the aisle. Not wanting to have any of that "repent at leisure" stuff, Herrick promised himself he wouldn't get married until he met the right woman. And he didn't meet that right woman ... not until now. Herrick met Virginia in a hospital hallway. After that chance encounter, they started meeting every day. Soon love bloomed and recently Gilbert Herrick, World War II veteran and retired postal worker, was united in holy matrimony with Virginia Hartman. True, some have said that Herrick, who is 99 years old, has robbed the cradle by getting hitched to 86-year-old Hartman. They can say what they want, but Herrick knows she's the right gal. When I first read that story I thought isn't that cute! But as I thought about it, the love story started to take on a deeper meaning for me. When Pastor Abel talked to us about "repenting at leisure," it was a different world. Back then you stuck with the person you were married to ... no matter how unhappy you were. Today it's different. Divorce is in and long-term suffering is out. But ... there are many of us who count ourselves blessed to have the helpmeet we do. Many of us, like Herrick, have been given just the right gal or guy. This, too, is a gift from the Lord. This is why, if you haven't done so, won't you give thanks to the Lord for putting such an individual into your life. And while you're doing so, you might want to include an extra prayer for another most special individual. Give thanks to the Lord Jesus Christ, God's Son, your Savior. Give thanks for the world's Redeemer whose love turns pale all others, which we will ever know. THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, for having sent wonderful people into this world who love me, I give thanks. But I also pray for those who feel unloved. May they soon be surrounded by supporters. Most of all I give thanks for Jesus who has given the greatest love of all. In His Name. Amen.

"Kid friendly" meals will be provided from 5:30-6:00,festivities begin at 6pm, and end around 8:15pm. 
 
Kids will explore a few of the many miracles of Jesus by becoming "stars" in the stories.

SECOND ANNUAL CAMPING/FLOAT TRIP COMING UP July 22-24
Four full hook up campsites are reserved at Onandaga Cave State Park.  Cost is $54.50 for a site for the two days. 
 
Saturday will be on your own:  Please check your newsletter for all of the fun stuff there is to do. 
 
Sunday the floating group will leave from Ozark Outdoors at 10am to do a five mile float which should take 3-5 hours.  Cost to float in a canoe is $17.50 per person with two people per canoe.  Rafts are $22 a person and tubes are $20.

Visitation for Ted Daehnke will be this Friday from 9-11am at St. John's.

DEVOTION: How amiable are Thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts! My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God. Psalm 84:1-2 (KJV)

Tim Rutkowski, prosecutor for Michigan's Huron County, doesn't often bring charges against seven-year-old boys.

No, he doesn't do it often, but that doesn't mean he doesn't do it at all.

As proof, I point you to a unique event that took place a few weeks ago when, as a caring civil servant, he charged a little boy with the unlawful use of a vehicle. In this case the vehicle was the family car. Hitting speeds of more than 50 miles per hour, the boy drove more than 20 miles before the police stopped him.

The officers who were there said that when they looked into the vehicle, the lad was crying. The boy, who is being raised by his mother and a foster father, kept saying, "I want to go to my dad's."

So strong was the boy's desire to be with his dad, the county prosecutor wanted to make sure nothing was wrong in his home. That's why he filed the charges.

Now you know and I know that little boy was wrong and foolish. Along with many other mistakes he had endangered his life and that of others. Yes, the boy did many things wrong, but he did one thing right: he had an overwhelming, all-consuming desire to see and be with his father.

It occurs to me the Psalmist was describing the same kind of intense relationship with the Lord when he wrote the verse that serves as the theme for our devotion. He said, "My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God."

When I read that verse I wondered how many people really feel that way about the Lord. Reluctantly, I think the percentage is probably pretty small.

And although there are probably many reasons, one of the greatest difficulties is most folks seldom stop to think about what the Lord has done for them. The Father's love which reaches out to disobedient sinners, the Savior's blood-sealed sacrifice which pays the price to buy us back from our abductors, the Holy Spirit's patient calling and continuous encouragement are all obvious signs of God's great grace.

Every day in a multitude of ways the Lord shows the intensity of His caring. At the same time, through difficulties, intrusions, pains, challenges and seductions, the world tries to cloud and cover that grace so we don't see it, so our souls don't long for God's love.

This is why this Daily Devotion encourages you to take a few moments and see if you -- like the little boy -- want to be with your Father, Your Savior, the Spirit. If you do not yearn to be with the Person who loves you more than anyone, then take some time to remember and consider His faithful, ongoing gifts to you.

THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me appreciate all You have done to save me. Accept this gratitude and let my thankfulness daily increase. This I ask in Jesus' Name. Amen.

Ted Daehnke was taken home to be with the Lord today at about 9:30am.  He had a massive heart attack at home.  He was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, but was not able to make it.

St. John's Group Email Homeless help meeting notice was only for Evangelism board members

I was confused and thought that everyone was invited to the meeting next week.  It is only for Evangelism and Outreach Board members.  Sorry for the confusion. 
 

We will have more AFTER we "fact find" and get organized.  THEN, we will invite and inform the troops.

I appreciate your enthusiasm; but please, we only wanted the people on the "to" line.  Notice I offered refreshments too; but for 5 people.

 

 

For all who are interested in helping the homeless in our community.  We have a meeting scheduled to discuss the possibility of the St. John's Lutheran Church's C.H.U.R.C.H. Ministry helping our Warren County homeless neighbors by furnishing an evening meal one night a week.  We are having Kia Phillips & Nile Ramsbottom (God Cares Ministry)  come to the meeting because they are the ones that know what needs to be done, where it needs to be done and who it needs to be done for!   This will be a fact finding meeting - just the beginning.
