DEVOTION:  Deuteronomy 26:1-11 English Standard Version (ESV)

Offerings of Firstfruits and Tithes

26 "When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance and have taken possession of it and live in it, you shall take some of the first of all the fruit of the ground, which you harvest from your land that the Lord your God is giving you, and you shall put it in a basket, and you shall go to the place that the Lord your God will choose, to make his name to dwell there. And you shall go to the priest who is in office at that time and say to him, 'I declare today to the Lord your God that I have come into the land that the Lord swore to our fathers to give us.' Then the priest shall take the basket from your hand and set it down before the altar of the Lord your God.

"And you shall make response before the Lord your God, 'A wandering Aramean was my father. And he went down into Egypt and sojourned there, few in number, and there he became a nation, great, mighty, and populous. And the Egyptians treated us harshly and humiliated us and laid on us hard labor. Then we cried to the Lord, the God of our fathers, and the Lord heard our voice and saw our affliction, our toil, and our oppression. And the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, with great deeds of terror,[a] with signs and wonders. And he brought us into this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey. 10 And behold, now I bring the first of the fruit of the ground, which you, O Lord, have given me.' And you shall set it down before the Lord your God and worship before the Lord your God. 11 And you shall rejoice in all the good that the Lord your God has given to you and to your house, you, and the Levite, and the sojourner who is among you.

Worship this morning is still a go

The roads are snow covered and I'm sure there are some slick spots out there, although I didn't slip or slide. Please use your own best judgment.  If you live on or have to drive on a hill to get here it may he a bit too treacherous.

Also, this is a reminder that the voters meeting has been postponed to next Sunday at 10:15.

Special voter's meeting postponed till Sunday, March 10

Due to the impending snowstorm coming Saturday night and Sunday morning, we are going to postpone the voter's meeting to next Sunday, March 10 at 10:15.

We want as many people as possible to be there so that we get as much excitement and support for this project as we can. Please plan on attending!

We are still planning to have worship on Sunday.  Use your own discretion and common sense as to whether you decide to come to worship or not.

Have a blessed and restful night!

Prayer request

Please pray for SUE RUHL as she is hospitalized with an infection and is very weak. Thank you!

Matthew 5:1-12 English Standard Version (ESV)

The Sermon on the Mount

Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him.

The Beatitudes

And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

"Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons[a] of God.

10 "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 "Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Luke 6:20-27 English Standard Version (ESV)

The Beatitudes

20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said:

"Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.

21 "Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied.

"Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.

22 "Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! 23 Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets.

Jesus Pronounces Woes

24 "But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.

25 "Woe to you who are full now, for you shall be hungry.

"Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep.

26 "Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets.

I know that for many reasons, people cannot make it to the evening worship service, and so I'd like to make another worship service available.

I need your help though.  There are many in our church family who don't drive, and I would like to have three or four volunteers to go out and pick them up to bring them to church and back home again.  If I get enough interest, I may even try to have a lunch meal for everyone who is there.

We will still have our regular Lenten supper at 5:30, hosted by our youth group and parents, and worship at 6:30 as well.

Please let me know if you would be willing to help pick people up and take them home again, or if you'd like to help with a noon meal.  Let's make this a good event, and if it works out we might do it monthly.

DEVOTION: Luke 9:28-36 English Standard Version (ESV)

The Transfiguration

28 Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white. 30 And behold, two men were talking with him, Moses and Elijah, 31 who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure,[a] which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, but when they became fully awake they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. 33 And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah"—not knowing what he said. 34 As he was saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. 35 And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is my Son, my Chosen One;[b] listen to him!" 36 And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and told no one in those days anything of what they had seen.
