DEVOTIONS: John 15:9-17 English Standard Version (ESV)

⁹ As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love.¹⁰ If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. ¹¹ These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.

¹² "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. ¹³ Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. ¹⁴ You are my friends if you do what I command you. ¹⁵ No longer do I call you servants,^[a] for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. ¹⁶ You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. ¹⁷ These things I command you, so that you will love one another.

ISAIAH 55 MINISTRY HAS BEGUN AT ST. JOHN'S!!

This ministry is very simple.  Take the Word of God and put it into the hands and lives of people.  As you go about your day, simply leave them in the restaurant, store, waiting room—wherever someone would find them.  Give them as gifts to your friends and neighbors. 

 

This ministry is based on these verses from Isaiah 55

¹⁰ "For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
    and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
    giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
¹¹ so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
    it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
    and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

FAITH5 TRAINING  (No FAITH5 training this Sunday due to Pastor's absence)

1. Every Sunday at 9:45 April 15-May 27—For the next five weeks we will be digging deeper into the five faith practices of our Faith5 movement.  Yesterday we did an overview and a quick practice of Faith5 with each other.  This coming Sunday we are going to take a longer look at what "Sharing" our highs and lows is all about and why it is beneficial for us.  (Please note that there will be no class on April 29 because it is 5^th Sunday or May 20 because of voters meeting)
2. Saturday, May 19 8-Noon-  We are going to take one whole morning and have a crash course on faith5 and how we can get the most out of it.  Registration and Sign up is greatly appreciated for this!  Sign up sheet for it is on the counter in the narthex. You can also simply reply to this email, or you can call or text me at 636-359-1061 to let me know you'll be there.

For BILL MCKENZIE, as he is in stage 4 kidney failure and only has a short time left on the earth.

 

For BUCK HAMPTON who has decided to stop chemo treatments and go on hospice care.

 

For RON WILLIAMS' MOM, MARY WILLIAMS, as she is on hospice care at the end stages of Alzheimer's/Dementia.

 

For JEANNIE SIEBOLD, DENISE HOOKER (Betty Tameler's daughter),  GEORGE HOESCHER,  as they continue to deal with cancer. 

 

 

PRAYERS FOR OUR MILITARY PERSONNEL:

For both DAN DREYER and SAM HARGROVE as they move on to their next assignments and/or get jobs during their interim at home.

 

For COLTON FIGURA deployed to Turkey for five more months.

 

For DAVID TATE stationed in Japan, and ALEX WALTERS, stationed in Tennessee.  That God would bless their service to our country and keep them safe as they all await possible deployment.

Prayer request

Please pray for Mike and Amber Vossen who were in a motorcycle accident on Sunday.  Amber has a broken leg. It is broken in three places.  She's already had one surgery and will have to have another one next week. Mike has a very badly sprained ankle and bad road rash. Both of them came home from the hospital today.

Overcoming the World

Gentiles Hear the Good News

³⁴ So Peter opened his mouth and said: "Truly I understand that God shows no partiality, ³⁵ but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. ³⁶ As for the word that he sent to Israel, preaching good news of peace through Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all), ³⁷ you yourselves know what happened throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism that John proclaimed:³⁸ how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. ³⁹ And we are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree, ⁴⁰ but God raised him on the third day and made him to appear, ⁴¹ not to all the people but to us who had been chosen by God as witnesses, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. ⁴² And he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead. ⁴³ To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name."

The Holy Spirit Falls on the Gentiles

⁴⁴ While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. ⁴⁵ And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles. ⁴⁶ For they were hearing them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter declared,⁴⁷ "Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?" ⁴⁸ And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to remain for some days.

Prayer of thanksgiving for CAROL BRAZEE, as she is back out of ICU and is doing rather well.

 

For BILL MCKENZIE, as he is in kidney failure and only has a short time left on the earth.

 

For BUCK HAMPTON who has decided to stop chemo treatments and go on hospice care.

 

For RON WILLIAMS' MOM, MARY WILLIAMS, as she is on hospice care at the end stages of Alzheimer's/Dementia.

 

For JEANNIE SIEBOLD, DENISE HOOKER (Betty Tameler's daughter),  GEORGE HOESCHER,  as they continue to deal with cancer. 

 

 

PRAYERS FOR OUR MILITARY PERSONNEL:

For both DAN DREYER and SAM HARGROVE as they move on to their next assignments and/or get jobs during their interim at home.

 

For COLTON FIGURA deployed to Turkey for five more months.

 

For DAVID TATE stationed in Japan, and ALEX WALTERS, stationed in Tennessee.  That God would bless their service to our country and keep them safe as they all await possible deployment.

 

For CALEB FIGURA AND VINCE MASTERS who are both serving our country in the National Guard and take time out of their lives, jobs, and families to go on duty several times a year.
