DEVOTION:  Luke 24:36-49 English Standard Version (ESV)

Jesus Appears to His Disciples

36 As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, "Peace to you!" 37 But they were startled and frightened and thought they saw a spirit. 38 And he said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39 See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have." 40 And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. 41 And while they still disbelieved for joy and were marveling, he said to them, "Have you anything here to eat?" 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish,[a] 43 and he took it and ate before them.

44 Then he said to them, "These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled." 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, 47 and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high."

Sorry for the noise in the background.  I forgot to turn off sound notifications and several people texted me during the video.  Have a peace filled day everyone!

Faith5 Training starts this Sunday during Sunday school hour

This is just a reminder that we are starting Faith5 training during Sunday school time 9:45:10:45.  This is for all parents, grandparents, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ to learn how to do Faith5 and get the most out of it, but it is also good for all of us to simply learn how to communicate our faith better with others.  EVERYONE should go through this training.

If you are going to help with our Wednesday nights starting JUNE 6, it would be good for you to go through this training too.

If you can't make it to Sunday mornings for the next six weeks, I'm planning on doing a one day workshop from 8-Noon on Saturday , May 19.  I'll make breakfast for whoever signs up. Sign up sheet will be in the narthex, or you can just reply to this email to tell me you are coming.

God's blessings on your week!

DEVOTION:  1 John 3:1-7 English Standard Version (ESV)

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears[a] we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.

Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous.

YESTERDAY'S QUIZWhen King Saul inquired of the Lord but the Lord didn't answer, what did Saul resort to doing?  (Don't ever do this!)

So, he basically flipped God off, and consulted with a medium, asking her to conjure a spirit (Samuel) for him. Not very smart – about as smart as using a Ouija board.

DEVOTION:  John 20:19-31 English Standard Version (ESV)

Jesus Appears to the Disciples

19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews,[a] Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you."20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you." 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld."

Jesus and Thomas

24 Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin,[b] was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe."

26 Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you." 27 Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe." 28 Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!" 29 Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

The Purpose of This Book

30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

YESTERDAY'S QUIZ

Who is Abigail?

Answer #1- Oh! I know this one, and I didn't even have to look it up.

She was one of  David's wives. She'd been married before – to a real bum – and after he was killed, David married her.

Here's an article about her, if you want to read more of her story: https://www.whatchristianswanttoknow.com/bible-character-study-on-abigail/

Answer #2- She was the wife of Nabal of Carmel ( noted for her beauty and wisdom ) who upon Nabal's death married King David.  1 Sam.25:3,14-44.  David also had a sister named Abigail married to Jether the Ishmaelite and the mother of Amasa. 1 Chronicles 16-17
