DEVOTION:  Psalm 25:1-10  English Standard Version (ESV)

Teach Me Your Paths

[a] Of David.

25 To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
O my God, in you I trust;
    let me not be put to shame;
    let not my enemies exult over me.
Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame;
    they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.

Make me to know your ways, O Lord;
    teach me your paths.
Lead me in your truth and teach me,
    for you are the God of my salvation;
    for you I wait all the day long.

Remember your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love,
    for they have been from of old.
Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
    according to your steadfast love remember me,
    for the sake of your goodness, O Lord!

Good and upright is the Lord;
    therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
He leads the humble in what is right,
    and teaches the humble his way.
10 All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness,
    for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.

Isn't it great to know that God doesn't remember the sins of our youth, or any sins for that matter?  BY virtue of his son's death and resurrection, in his infinite mercy and grace, he has forgotten our sins!  He has truly forgotten them.  He has put them out of his mind forever.

You may think this is impossible, because you probably remember A LOT of your sins.  Your guilt probably still weighs heavy on your heart for past sins.  You can't forget them no matter how hard you try.  You probably also remember, and Satan is really good and getting you to remember, that there are many who have sinned against you, and many of them have never apologized or asked for forgiveness.

God isn't like that.  He is omniscient, so when we are unable to forget, or when we call to mind past sins, long forgiven and forgotten by God, he forgot them!  In fact, when he sees you in our faith and belief in Jesus, he sees Jesus!  When he looks at you, he sees his son, Jesus!  Isn't that fantastic?  Isn't that a relief?

So live free today!  Live free from your past sins.  When Satan is there to help you remember, tell him to bug off, that the Lord has forgotten them and you will too!  Then trust in the Holy Spirit to give you the power to forget again and again and to live in the peace, mercy, and grace of Christ!

Have a blessed day y'all!

Prayer: Lord God, you have forgotten my sins.  THANK YOU!  Give me the power to forget them as well.  Amen.

Fwd: prayer request from Pat King

Just found out that my late, older brother's youngest was in a horrific car accident last night. His prognosis is not good. Even if he survives – which is doubtful at the present time – he will have sustained severe brain damage, and will be paralyzed from the waist down.
Anyway, here is the post my older brother's widow posted on FB:

"All prayers are needed for my son Mike. He was in a serious accident last night. He is in critical condition with bleeding on the brain, spine fracture, collapsed lungs, kidney damage, cracked ribs and removal of the spleen. Please. All prayers are needed."

I already posted a request for prayers on our church's FB page. I want to thank everyone in advance, for the prayers I know they will send to our Lord. Thank you.

Please pray for Donna Heitgerd's daughter in law PEGGY HEITGERD who is having back surgery today.

DEVOTION: Matthew 20:1-16English Standard Version (ESV)

Laborers in the Vineyard

20 "For the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius[a] a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and to them he said, 'You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you.' So they went.Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour, he did the same. And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing. And he said to them, 'Why do you stand here idle all day?'They said to him, 'Because no one has hired us.' He said to them, 'You go into the vineyard too.' And when evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, 'Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last, up to the first.' And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius.10 Now when those hired first came, they thought they would receive more, but each of them also received a denarius. 11 And on receiving it they grumbled at the master of the house, 12 saying, 'These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.' 13 But he replied to one of them, 'Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? 14 Take what belongs to you and go. I choose to give to this last worker as I give to you. 15 Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?'[b] 16 So the last will be first, and the first last."

A lot of people have a hard time with the concepts of mercy and grace.  It isn't fair, and that's the point.  If any of us got what we deserved every one of us would be in hell.

I've seen it in the church too.  Those who have been members longer or who volunteer more, or who are more involved in the church seem to have an attitude like those who worked all day in the parable.  Who wouldn't?  I would, and I do.  We measure our worth by what we do.  The harder we work and the more we produce the more we are worth.  And with the world that's the way it should be.

Thank God that it's not that way with him though.  Our worth is not dependent on how much we do or how many souls we produce.  It is worth much more than that.  Our worth is everything to him.  He loved us so much that he sent his Son, Jesus, to die for us.  Our heavenly Father doesn't look at our earthly worth, he looks at our heavenly worth.  When he measures our worth he measures it by Jesus!

I want to take a moment to wish Karin a happy birthday!  As a teenager and as a young man I always had my visions and my ideas of what kind of wife I would have and what it would be like to be married.  Thank God he didn't go with what I wanted and especially what I deserved.  He gave me so much more!  I would have never asked for what God gave me.  He blessed me more than I could have ever thought or imagined.  I love you Karin!

Prayer: Lord, thank you for not giving me what I really deserve but instead showering me with all of your mercy and grace.  Amen.

DEVOTION:  Philippians 1:12-14 and 19-30   English Standard Version (ESV)

The Advance of the Gospel

12 I want you to know, brothers,[a] that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel, 13 so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard[b] and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ. 14 And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word[c] without fear.

19 for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance, 20 as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. 23 I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. 24 But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account. 25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith, 26 so that in me you may have ample cause to glory in Christ Jesus, because of my coming to you again.

27 Only let your manner of life be worthy[a] of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel, 28 and not frightened in anything by your opponents. This is a clear sign to them of their destruction, but of your salvation, and that from God. 29 For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake, 30 engaged in the same conflict that you saw I had and now hear that I still have.

What does it mean to really live?  Does it mean being all you can be?  Does it mean eat, drink, and be merry?  Does it mean to love everyone as much as you can?  What does it really mean to live?  Well, I think Paul has the best answer when he says, "For to me to live is Christ."

And so we ask the ultimate question.  What does this mean?  What does it mean when we say "to live is Christ"?  Well, it basically means that we live in the Gospel.  We live in the life that Christ has given us.  We live in the knowledge that we are living in God's grace, and nothing can separate us from that love, not sin, not our enemies, not our troubles, nothing can separate us.  We live in Christ by living in his love.

And this love motivates us to do good things.  It motivates us to forgive others who sin against us.  It motivates us to work hard at our jobs because we want to honor God and his love.  It motivates us to love others and to do good to everyone.  It motivates us to have joy and happiness in spite of our circumstances.  It motivates us to LIVE IN CHRIST!

How are you living in Christ?  I'd love to hear about it?  I always rejoice when Christ's love permeates the ones I love and the whole church!  May the Holy Spirit make it happen more each and every day!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for bringing more people to you through me.  Help me to live in you, whatever that means.  Amen.
