FYI: 151 Pinnacle Lake Road - 68.65 acres DeBlaze Forest Retreat

Dawn DeBlaze-Herron, her husband, John, and Scott DeBlaze have asked me to let you know we have listed their parent's property at 151 Pinnacle Lake Road, High Hill, Montgomery County as two unique properties.  While they would like to sell the property in total, they are willing to entertain selling the cabin, all outbuildings, ponds and 30 acres for 224,500. They are also willing to work with the buyer to include as much acreage as both parties agree.  Once this buyer has been identified, we will then be in a position to sell the remaining acreage, now listed at $114,000 for the northern 38.65 acres. As many of you know, this property is not a part of the Pinnacle Lake development and as such can be hunted on and has no subdivision restrictions.

The entire 68.65 m/l acreage with all improvements are now listed at $324,500.  I have linked below the two individual listings as discussed above.

If you have any interest in this property or know of someone who might, Dawn, Scott and I would appreciate you passing this information on.  Please feel free to contact me to discuss any details or if I can help you, my cell phone number is 314-749-6178.

Thanks,
Barry

Daily Devotion: Thursday, September 18, 2014

DEVOTION:  "For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.  But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even this that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God."  1 Corinthians 1:26-29

Christianity is not for the tough, the proud, or the self righteous.  You read that right.    If you are any of those things God is going to use the opposite of those things to bring you to your knees before him.

That's what I like and dislike about being a Christian.  On the one hand there is no pretense.  There is no richer people ruling the rest of it.  Everyone in the church is equal.  I like that a lot!

On the other hand, when I begin to think of myself as better than others because of my standing in the church or the fact that I am a pastor, God usually does something or lets something happen in my life that doesn't feel too good to bring me back down to reality.  That stinks, because it is usually a time of discomfort and deep soul searching that I must go through to be brought to my own knees in repentance.  It doesn't feel good to give up our own "comforts" and our own "ideas" in order for God to do what He needs to do in our hearts and in our lives.

On the other hand, when we do finally give it up, let go, and just get it all out there is this huge sense of relief, because it is so hard to hold on to our own self righteousness, it is so hard to keep up the façade, and it is just plain depressing to keep lying to ourselves and to God. "If we say we have not sinned, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us, but if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

God uses the faith of little children to show us what true faith should look like.   He called nasty fishermen and tax collectors to be his disciples to show us that it doesn't require perfection to enter into Christ's presence.  He uses a simple faith in all that He has done for us to bring us to eternal life so that we never begin to think that it is because we are better or have done more good!

Realize that you were nothing when God called you!  Realize that you don't even deserve for God to give you a second thought.  Bu then also realize that your worth is in Christ!  Realize that God loved you so much that He sent His Son to die for you!

Prayer:  Lord God, help me to always be humbled before you so that you can lift me up!  Amen.

Daily Devotion: Wednesday, September 17, 2014

DEVOTION:  "Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?  Tell me, if you understand.  Who marked off its dimensions?  Surely you know!  Who stretch the measuring line across it?  On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone-- while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?  Job 38:4-5

One of the things that gets my blood boiling more than anything as a dad is when my kids question me, my knowledge or my authority.  I'm sure that most of you parents can relate to this.  When we are questioned by kids who are half or even a fourth of our age we get angry.  They think that they know more than we, who have lived life, made our share of mistakes and learned from them, and have years of experience and learning under our belts.  It just drives me nuts.

The same was true for God with his child Job.  Job and his friends began to question God's authority, his motives, and his actions when he allowed Satan to do what he did to Job.  After having his ears filled with all kinds of questioning God had enough.  He finally answered Job with the verse above and much more.

Notice that God doesn't really answer the his question though.  He basically says, as all parents have said at one time or another, "Because I said so."  No answer to Job's question of suffering was going to make Job feel better.  No amount of reasoning with a man in his heartache and pain ever makes the pain go away or ever lessens the consequences of sin.

Our kids need to know who's in charge.  They need to know that even though sometimes things don't make sense to them at the time what we are doing or deciding for them at the time is for their own good.  In the same way, we are never going to completely understand the reason for God allowing things to happen or why certain things happen at certain times.  We aren't always going to understand God's ways or His will for us.  This is where faith comes in!  Faith says that God works all things out for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.  Faith says that God knows better than I do considering what is best for me and for my life.  Faith says God has it all in His hands and I am going to live with Him for all eternity in paradise.

Let us pray:  Lord God, help me to have faith even in the midst of my deepest darkest questions.  Amen.

YESTERDAY'S QUIZ:    When do most scholars think that the book of Job was written?  Many scholars think it was written somewhere between 2000 and 1000 B.C.  while others seem to think that it took place as one of the earliest stories in history even before the flood.

Daily Devotion: Tuesday, September 16, 2014

DEVOTION:  And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.  Hebrews 10:24-25

Did you know that this weekend has been deemed by some to be National Back to Church weekend?

You may say, I don't need to get "back to church".  I'm in church every weekend.

I always have to remind myself that when I write this daily email devotion I am usually preaching to the choir.  By that I mean that most if not all of you who read this are quite faithful in your worship and in your service to God.  You are the ones who are tithing.  You are the ones who are in worship every weekend.  You are the ones who are on the boards and committees.  You are the ones who are doing things without even being asked like putting the numbers up on the hymn boards ever week, filling the creamers containers for the coffee,  recording the worship service, setting up communion, and I could go on and on.

You don't do this because you are better than anyone else.  You don't do it to get recognition or to be noticed (although rest assured I notice you and God notices you).  You do it because you love your Jesus and you love His church.  You do it because you have been blessed by God with His gifts of mercy and grace in your life and you just have been moved to serve others.  You find joy in your service, not because what you do is something great or no one else would ever think of doing it, but because the Holy Spirit has filled you with his joy and peace.  He has filled you to overflowing so that His love moves on to the rest of the congregation and even out into the community.  In other words, to put it very simply, YOU GET IT!

The trick now is to get that love, that mercy and grace, that peace that passes all understanding to those who don't get it.  We need to "stir up one another to love and good works"  We need to be "encouraging one another!"

Is there someone you are missing from the fellowship of the church and from his worship?  Maybe they've been gone for a few weeks or maybe quite a few years.  Maybe they had a bad experience with the church or were even offended by someone.  Maybe it was even the pastor.  Maybe now is the time to have that tough conversation that God has been stirring up in you.  Maybe they just need a little nudge.  Maybe they have been thinking about returning to the fellowship of the church for some time but just haven't gotten up the courage or they simply don't have someone to sit with them.

Whatever the case, you are the ones that the writer of Hebrews is speaking to today when he says, these words.  Or maybe you need the words of Jesus instead....  Here they are "From those to whom much is given MUCH IS EXPECTED"!

Daily Devotion: Monday, September 15, 2014

DEVOTION:  How then can a man be righteous before God?  How can one born of a woman be pure?  If even the moon is not bright and the stars are not pure in his eyes, how much less man, who is but a maggot- a son of man, who is only a worm?  Job 25:6

When Bildad spoke to Job is wasn't necessarily to console him.  These words would cut Job to the heart.  And it probably wasn't the best time to say something like this.  As Job points out sarcastically in the next verse "How you have helped the powerless."

Job had just seen his whole family get wiped off the face of the earth and all his property destroyed.  He knew that he wasn't perfect.  He knew that he had troubles.  There was no need to tell him that.

Sometimes it is good to tell someone that he is not perfect.  It is good to bring the law to bear on someone's life who seems to be living life without the law.  It is good to do what you can to stop sin and cause repentance in a person's life.  If we don't there is danger of falling away from faith all together.

When a person is in the pit of despair over the guilt of his sin or because of the consequences of sin in the world, as is the case with Job, it is the GOSPEL, the good news of Jesus' death and resurrection for him that he needs to hear.  The key is that both the law and the gospel need to be applied with love.  If a person knows that you love him, then telling him that what he is doing, thinking, or saying is wrong will be received differently than it will be from someone that person doesn't know or someone who knows that you don't care about him.

Once a person is convicted of his sin it is of utmost importance that he is not left there in his sin.  He needs to be given the gospel.  Jesus never left anyone who was truly convicted of sin in his sin.  He always gave that person his forgiveness.  I cannot stress enough how important that true and real forgiveness is to a person in the depths of despair.   Even if you want that person to suffer or hurt and to pay for what he did, you cannot keep Christ's forgiveness from him.  It is not your to withhold!  It is yours to give freely!

Is there anyone in your life who desperately needs to hear the good news of God's grace?  I urge to be God's mouthpiece today.  Give God's grace to those who need it?  Share the gospel with those in deep distress over their sins!  Give relief to the distressed and sorrowful!  Do unto others as you would have them do to you!

Let us pray:  Lord God help me to be a generous giver of your gospel to all who need it today regardless of my feelings for them.  Amen.
